If anyone mentions football violence to me again, I'm going to punch them in the face.
make sure you are wearing your Villa shirt though, just so they are clear.

It's striking me that there's now two FA Cups. There's the lovely, magic-of-the FA Cup, where plumbers and plasterers can dream of playing at Old Trafford and little children run on the pitch to meet their idols, then there's the real FA Cup when you've only got big clubs left and it becomes a proper tournament watched by proper fans.

I think you're right. I'm trying to find an article I glimpsed from after the fourth round weekend where the writer was desperate for Liverpool/Arsenal/Man U final to restore the competition's credibility. Think it was from a proper paper too, not just some numpty with a blog.

Had to travel to Galway today for a hospital appointment.  Listening to the radio today they had some prick on saying how everyone is wanting a Liverpool/Man U/ Arse type final; as 'lesser' clubs would make for a less interesting final.  My blood pressure went through the roof.  Started reading the match report in the Irish Times (creditable broadsheet) and there was not one mention of a game of football that had taken place, it was all about the 21st century D-Day!  with respect to veterans.  TBF, I think the article was taken from a piece in the Guardian.  Even Mrs S could understand my wrath.

On 606 last night, Kelly Dalglish was inviting people to call in and explain which manager they thought would most benefit from winning the FA Cup - Rodgers, Van Gaal or Wenger. None of whom had even qualified for the semi final. She didn't even mention the other managers. Well, she hadn't mentioned them by the time I'd put my fucking foot through the radio and sent the repair bill to the BBC.

We need a huge banner saying ' Danger- media over reaction zone!'

Excellent idea.
Then an invasion of the Press Box v Swansea, preferably by fans with with vampire teeth - while those in the Upper Trinity throw chairs (not seats) down on them.
Catering can even join in by supplying a press buffet from the dark ages.

While we are at it, I think the quality of the live offering of the EPL could do with bolstering- I don't want to be watching the likes of Hull, Crystal Palace and Everton thrash the ball aound the pitch- I want Super Sundays! Manchester City-Arsenal-Chelsea-Liverpool til I'm blue in the face!

Let's introduce the new Super EPL- compulsory relegation for the bottom 12 teams, based on number of likes on Facebook!

On this point, I've just remembered something from the coverage of last year's final, namely Arsenal attempting to win their first trophy in nine years was deemed more worthy of comment than Hull going for their first trophy ever. The magic of the cup is not welcome beyond the fifth round it seems.

When you have the entire Holte End on its feet (and we were in the upper tier, even us down the front) and singing, with the Witton Lane and Trinity Road joining us along with the North too, Villa Park has to be the very best football ground in the entire world.

The atmosphere in the second half on Saturday was brilliant and boomingly loud, with the normal 80 minute Witton laners running onto the track like it was an away game.

It was just a fantastic game.

You have to feel for the Sun headline writer who came up with 'CARNAGE' for Saturday night's exuberance.

What's he supposed to come up with for the story of all those poor kids and the grandmother who died in car crashes over the weekend?

Just seen the west brom bloke on Central news who commented that seeing villa fans invade the pitch was 'like a throwback to the 70's' and 'was always likely to kickoff'.

Oh, and he wasn't actually at the match.

Twat!

Just occurred to me "it's like going back to the 80s all over again" has a different meaning for Villa fans doesn't it?
