I remember being at the 2-2 game in the late 90s,it was the first match after Keegan quit. The holte was singing '' he's playing golf, he's playing golf,Keegans playing golf '' to the three lions tune.

I haven't got a problem with Carver,
We took the piss when they were relegated
They will take the piss back if we go down, there is no point getting all precious about it,
That's the way it is and that's the way it should be

I don't think it us getting precious about it, if anything his reaction makes it all even funnier, and I'm glad he hasn't forgotten it.

He does come across as a bit unprofessional though with his comments, to his own embarrassment - and possibly puts himself in an awkward position during May when his team play Leicester, QPR and Albion in three of their last four games. Anything less than his best XI putting in a performance in those games and his comments will be thrown back at him.

What makes Carver look stupid is he is putting the entire season down to one game vs us. If he was bright or even a good coach (which he isn't - let's not forget he was fired as manager of Toronto FC in the MLS) he'd be diverting attention away from that. I think I am right In saying that maybe only Collocini and Taylor remain of the current players who played that day so how is that any motivation to them? It's sound bytes for the fans from a man who will likely be gone as soon as a new manager is found.

Looking back at it, we weren't even all that bad. A couple of banners and a hearty chorus of "Going down" was about all; the Newcastle fans I spoke to afterwards didn't mention say anything about it as they were far more scathing of their team. It's one of those things that's been mythologised over the years.

Well exactly. But the only people being precious about it are some Newcastle fans and their manager.

My mother and her side of the family are all from Newcastle and a few of them were at Villa Park that day. They said they never had a problem with it, as they'd have done the same if it had been the other way round. If anything, they were more hacked off at how piss poor their team had been over the season and how little fight they put up on the day.

The thing is it's one thing their fans enjoying giving us a bit of stick. It's just a bit weird when their manager comes out and says it. Even if he thinks it it would be more professional not to comment.

That was what I remember most. You'd have thought they'd either stay up or die in the attempt but players and supporters both seemed to accept it. Maybe that's what they're still so pissed off about.

They are just looking for a scapegoat to blame for their terrible side that season. Sadly we are an even worse rabble this season and their revenge will be sweet. Funny how Carver knows exactly how many times we have won in games against them since.... bitter man.

We can't avoid the fact that in the next 12 games, unless we do something remarkable to save ourselves, we are going to get a huge amount of ridicule.

if we do go down there will be a lot more than Carver jumping around in joy about it

every other teams fans in the midlands will be loving it regardless of how well they are doing, we are the Kings of the midlands and if we fall they will all gather to rip the piss, and this is how it should be I would expect nothing less,
so we better start preparing a thick skin just in case the worst happens

at the end of the day though it doesn't matter, we will still be the Villa and they will still be a bunch of wanking tossbaskets

going for this line up. It is likely nothing like the team itself but given our needs and injuries I'll go for this

-----------------------------------GUZAN----------------------------------------

-----LOWTON--------OKORE---------------CLARK-------------BACUNA-------
----------------------------------SANCHEZ------------------------------------
-----------------------GIL----------------------DELPH-------------------------
--------SINCLAIR--------------------------------------------GREALISH--------
----------------------------------BENTEKE-------------------------------------

SUBS: GIVEN, HUTTON, N'ZOGBIA, WESTWOOD, CLEVERLEY, SENDEROS, WEIMANN

I don't know who else is available to play LB so I think Bacuna might have played there. I suppose N'Zog could fill in as WB. He's played there before for Newcastle I believe. But that would be too aggressive in this system.

We'll beat this shower tomorrow and wont be too far off them come the end of the season. They're an utterly craven outfit and were lucky not to be battered 8 or 9 last week.

It's time for this:
