They didn't get it then, and they don't get it now. All that Geordie Nation, bestest fans, everyone's second favourite club stuff had pissed everyone else off. Every other club would have behaved exactly the same; we were just the lucky ones that could do it.

I agree, it will still smart if they beat us though.

A bit like Smethwick and Bradford at the moment...they just assume that everybody thinks they're great and the only "proper" fans in the world. Because.....?

Twats!

The difference is that nobody really gives a bugger about West Barca and Bradford whereas we had the Geordie Bollocks rammed down our throats by the media.

To hear some of them go on about it you'd think the entirety of Villa Park was awash with piss-taking banners (there were two from what I recall), endless chants about them getting relegated and the ritual killing of magpies on the pitch.

I think they only like other sets of fans if they respond with extreme fawning when Newcastle United (last trophy win* - 1969 in a competition that no longer exists) roll into town.

*Do they count the Intertoto win in 2006? That would be interesting.

Their obsession with us is very amusing. As Dave says, they are too fucking thick to work why they were mocked, and that nearly every club would have done it to the twats. Remember the FB group or page, set up by a Sunderland fan I think, that had fans of a shit load of clubs willing us to send them down.

And like fuck was it orchestrated, it was very very funny though seeing how many of us recognised them for the twats they are. A bit like when Sunderland took the piss out of Manure on the final day with the Poznan a couple of years ago.

I wonder if it came down to us or Sunderland going what they'd prefer

We've won the FA Cup since they last won a domestic trophy. That's how shit they are.

Without a doubt.

Would be happy with a clean sheet and nil nil.  Can then kick off a run with a win against the albion

Oh, I dunno. Others might well have tried, but we did it magnificently. The
"Ant or Dec", so simple, simplistic, obvious in hindsight, yet I don't reckon any other lot would've come up with it. A day that summed up a fundamental aspect of English football supporting; getting one's 'ating of the other 91 in.
Fuck 'em. 1-0 us.

It is true that many of our better results  come from teams who are overconfident.
