You don't become heir apparent to Ferguson without being good. He wasn't though. All the managers/coaches they wanted weren't available so they turned to Moyes. He's not a bad manager but as Chris said, he's perfect for the Villa which for me is damning with faint praise.Didn't they take him ahead of Mourinho, leading to the 'burst into tears' story?

Yes. The idea that Manu settled for Moyes because everyone else gave them the swerve, when it is arguably the biggest managerial job in club football, is basically ridiculous.
He wasn't, it's a myth.

David Moyes is a quality manager.
I would love to see Moyes given the chance to manage the villa. I agree that he would be a perfect match for us. But I can't help but sympathise with Sherwood. He did great keeping us up. The semi against Liverpool was magnificent. Then the club go and sell his prize assets Benteke and Delph. He gets to choose a few players of his own and if word coming out of the ground is true the foreign contingent is chosen by the club's 'advisers' I think he had the rug pulled from under him pre- season and he is now trying to stitch a team together that he hadn't planned. If so shame on the club's heigherarchy. It's going to be a very rocky road ahead for us while we sit helplessly and watch people playing politics with OUR club.

You want to be the guy after the after the guy. Moyes was doomed to fail. Bang average squad, massive expectations.
