This is all previous anyway, but I find it ridiculous that people would turn their nose up at Moyes. You don't become heir apparent to Ferguson without being good.

He wasn't though. All the managers/coaches they wanted weren't available so they turned to Moyes. He's not a bad manager but as Chris said, he's perfect for the Villa which for me is damning with faint praise.

Didn't they take him ahead of Mourinho, leading to the 'burst into tears' story?

There was a story this week about yet another BBC Manchester programme about Fergie, to be shown on Sunday. Ferguson is quoted in his defence of hiring Moyes; "Jose Mourinho was going back to Chelsea, Carlo Ancelotti was going to Real Madrid, Jurgen Klopp had signed a contract with Dortmund, Louis van Gaal was staying with Holland for the World Cup."

Yes. The idea that Manu settled for Moyes because everyone else gave them the swerve, when it is arguably the biggest managerial job in club football, is basically ridiculous.

I would love to see Moyes given the chance to manage the villa. I agree that he would be a perfect match for us. But I can't help but sympathise with Sherwood. He did great keeping us up. The semi against Liverpool was magnificent. Then the club go and sell his prize assets Benteke and Delph. He gets to choose a few players of his own and if word coming out of the ground is true the foreign contingent is chosen by the club's 'advisers' I think he had the rug pulled from under him pre- season and he is now trying to stitch a team together that he hadn't planned. If so shame on the club's heigherarchy. It's going to be a very rocky road ahead for us while we sit helplessly and watch people playing politics with OUR club.

He wasn't, it's a myth.

I must have dreamt his post match interview at Old Trafford after Real played them in that case.

The one where Jose prostituted himself for the role?

No-one wants to be the guy after the guy. You want to be the guy after the after the guy.

Moyes was doomed to fail. Bang average squad, massive expectations.

Just because ManU picked Moyes over other managers* does not mean he is good enough for us. They just made a bad call. Its not just us that can do that even scumbag hyper rich teams like ManU can make terrible mistakes. We can at least learn from them.

*and I agree they did. I seem to recall the rumours that lots of the Manu old guard thought Jose was too much of an insufferable twat to deal with and it is hard to disagree.

David Moyes is a quality manager.

I disagree. I would say at Everton he was, the past few years he clearly has not been. I weigh the recent evidence more heavily but I understand why folks make take the previous lengthy spell of success as the better case. Choices I suppose.

I still come back to my assertion that all British / Irish managers right now are poor quality. If Moyes is the best of them (and he may be) then that says more about the state our our managers than whether he is the right man for the job imho.

You know you're in trouble when even Krulak isn't making cheerleading comments although The Sun keep on using someone else as his picture which amuses me.

Anyway too many leaks, too many of our board making off the record comments, heavy defeat and Sherwood will be clearing his desk Monday morning and new manager in for Swansea game.

The defeats don't help but think he dug his own managerial grave by telling his media pals that he didn't sign half the summer signings which judging from all the boardroom leaks since then hasn't gone down at all well.

How do explain the tactical errors, bizarre team selections, and poor substitutions?

A squad so bang average that they'd just won the league by about ten points.

A mate of mine who lives in Bournemouth says the talk of the town is that Eddie Howe signed a new contract today cos Villa have made an enquiry and they are seeking maximum compensation. Probably absolute bollocks but just saying what I was told

He has less Premier league experience than Sherwood if we're still using that argument....
