He really has nothing to lose now by abandoning all semblance of a notion that he can do tactics and just trying to go out there and have a go, like they did last season. It was fun then. That's all he has left, is the hope of getting that energy and atmosphere back around the club that made us think that he could be he answer after all for a few short brilliant weeks.

If he's going he may as well go down with guns blazing, not with this weird tinkering, that is all just odd.

.......although it might not be the best idea to start that against Chelsea.

I don't think it would work now, though. With Benteke up front, it was easy. Just get the ball to him, and either he'll do the business or he'll create space for others, because the opposition are so terrified of him. But to get results with lesser players - especially new ones from abroad - you need to organise them.

I don't necessarily think it would either, but I think it had more of a chance than whatever it is he is trying to do at the moment.

It's quite unusual for the majority of fans to lose faith so quickly. It's probably because there were serious questions about him when he joined, but he is certainly losing the masses very quickly. He does give the impression of someone who has absolutely no coherant clue as to what to do with his team.

I think the difference is that we are already four adrift at the bottom, with an awful run of games in front of us, from which, on current form, we look likely to pick up little. We've not really been in this position before, and certainly not so early. Lambert at least picked up those points at the start of last season, which gave him a bit of a cushion for a while.

Norwich - Haven't a clue

Alex Neil looks a very decent manager. Norwich play some good football now with a largely average team.

Sounds like Lambore.
It does, which is a shame.

On the face of it, the idea of getting Lambert was still perfectly sound.

What we could really do with is a young, intelligent, experienced, tactically astute manager with a strong record of getting the best out of people and playing attractive, attacking football. The Lambert that we hired pretty much ticked all those boxes, it's just that the Lambert that was then in charge of us didn't.

Because Lambert didn't work, we (or rather the people making the appointment) are going to consider all the positives of hiring Lambert in the first place as things to be worried about rather than things to embrace.

Hence his replacement being a slightly dopey, inexperienced, tactical inadequate with little record to speak. If one thing doesn't work, just go for the opposite and see how that goes.

Alex Neil already looks 10 years older than he actually is, so he'd be one step ahead if he came to Villa.

As if this sorry season wasn't making me feel bad enough already , now LFC get Klopp. Jesus even his opening interview was better than anything we've managed in 5 or 6 years

Not that I am at all envious but even Fat Sam has taken on Sunderland, which I fear will result in an upturn in their results. Who is gonna blink first and make the next change - us or Newcastle?

Big Sam to Mackems. Only Brenda could save us now. Know of any decent pubs in Leeds?

I am just grateful Sunderland have taken the "obvious" English manager off the market. if Sherwood goes it will mean Fox will be forced to buy a good manager from overseas rather than our homegrown crap.

Or he could appoint Redknapp.

If Sherwood is to go you can guarantee it will be when it's already too late to act. I'd be flabbergasted if anything happens in the next few months.

I think the noises in the media will change in the next few weeks if results go the way we all expect (especially if Sunderland pick up a quick few points). From the lazy view that it's a new team that will take time to gel it will change to how shit we are if we are stuck on 4 or 5 points and cut adrift. That may be the only thing that makes Fox listen and make a change

It has been incredibly depressing watching Villa over the last few years. We have become a complete joke and it doesn't seem to matter who we appoint the spiral down continues.

I think the fact that people were so patient with Lambert is a big contributing factor to people losing it early with Sherwood - the fact that we tolerated growing pains for so long on the promise/assumption that it would eventually yield stability/positives, only for it to turn to complete shit by the end, means that we aren't exactly going to accept that kind of long-term thinking again when there's absolutely no empirical basis for thinking that sticking with Sherwood will be worth it in the long run. It's also why I'm a little fearful, at least at this stage, about appointing yet another promising British manager of limited top-flight experience - not necessarily because they definitely wouldn't come good for us, but it's such a gamble and I'm not optimistic about the expected benefit they might offer. I see it having to be someone with a relatively-recent track record of doing well (compared to expectations) in a top league. Someone like Prandelli (easy to link with him given his alleged Villa fandom), who did well at Fiorentina (only half a decade ago), took Italy to a Euro final when they weren't really fancied, and whose recent failures are arguably only relative (first-round exit at World Cup with a somewhat-undercooked Italy team, 16 games at Galatasaray who have big ambitions.) I'd be less convinced with someone like Laudrup, who managed to get Swansea into trouble and is now managing in Qatar - unless, of course, he comes in to play midfield as well.

I personaly am dreading the Chelsea game. I am dreading his team selection dreading his laughable tactical acumen but most of all dreading the fact that we are stuck with him.
I now understand he wants a bigger say in our transfer policy.l would have thought he has a very big say as it stands. He peaked with the Cup semi final for which we are grateful but I feel unless he and Wilkins are dispensed with soon we are odds to drop like a stone.
Sherwood will blame everyone except the main culprit.....himself!
