So that's another one in which he's been unable / unwilling to make the necessary changes mid-game. Has there been a single game so far where his substitutions / tactical switches have made any difference? I can't think of any.
Bournemouth Away
Today Adama came on and scored! However Mr Sherwood better have a plan to beat Sunderland!

I think Palace will have a good season. They're nothing special and like us lack a decent central striker but as we saw in the MON days pack plenty of pace in the wide areas and you'll always trouble a few times in this league.

It's worth remembering last two years I think they've finished 10th and 11th. As much as I don't like downgrade us that's the sort of standard we need to be getting to. From today's game I didn't see a massive gulf at all, pretty even bar a 15 minute spell of Palace pressure and we would've claimed a point but for ridiculous play from two of our players, infact three as Bacuna gave away the stupid corner in the first half.

The league is still pretty tight, 4 draws today and plenty of teams are bunched together. Win v Sunderland and the situation will be looking fine.

That comment from Sherwood is odd though, I wonder what sort of context in the interview it came in as certainly nothing from his quotes so far suggest he'd be content finishing 16th or 17th every season.

I want us to be entertaining and get shots on goals and score a few. Bournemouth have come out of three games, where they were a little unlucky against us, very unlucky to lose vs Liverpool and then gone and bagged 4 on the road. They might go down but scoring goals and having a bit of ambition might help them stay up. I want that version of Villa that showed such imagination against West Brom and Liverpool in the cup, Everton at home, Man City, Sunderland and Spurs away. We're going to lose games but we tried to win them. That's all I want to feel at the end of the game.

Are we ignoring Bournemouth when the manager brought on a player who changed the game? There are lot of people who made their minds up in Februrary about is manager.

Bringing on a big fucker and chunting the ball at his head is hardly tactical genius though, is it? I mean, it worked, and it was the right thing to do, but it's nothing that most managers in Britain wouldn't have thought of.

The flipside to todays coin is...if TS takes the criticism for the second half, then he deserves plaudits for dominating the first half (just the failings of Gabby that prevented us from being ahead at half time).

Yes, his game-plan worked very well in midfield. Sadly, this plan also included Gabby, whose heroically terrible display might well have cost us the game, and yet who Sherwood could never bring himself to sub off.

Sherwood is pretty good with his Plan A, which varies nicely from game to game and seems well thought out. He is, however, incredibly reliant on this Plan A working, because he doesn't seem very good at all at changing things around. His one-step-forward-one-step-back nature is summed up by the substitution today, where he brought exactly the right player on but took exactly the wrong player off.

Pardew interview on SSN stated that it was a very tactical game and we had the better of him in the first half. He genuinely seemed relieved to get the win which is in part due to Pardew making changes, mistakes from our players, our players not being fit, incorrect use of our substitutions and the quality (or lack of quality) of certain players that stayed on the pitch.

So keeping us up and beating the stripey shite in the cup and then Liverpool in the semi, but if you get beat by palace away your just tactically inept ??????????????

Why don't we just copy and paste all of the lambert posts but put sherwoods name in there then we won't have to come on here again

I'm in the camp of wanting to believe he's going to be great for us but there's something lurking in the back of my mind.

When did I say that? It was a good change, but it was an obvious one. Today, there were obvious changes screaming to be made and he missed them.

I don't get why of the required changes it is never Gabby that comes off? I think it was Ayew at Bournemouth, Sinclair vs Man U and Sanchez today. Never Gabby I don't get it.

Impact player? The only impact Gabby would on a game is making the substitution to break up play and waste a few seconds.

This. Gabby isn't good enough to be a "super-sub".
