Some players froze, end of story. Instead of slagging Sherwood off, maybe think where we would have been with Lambert in charge. Championship me thinks

I don't think there's a single person on here who would disagree with that.

However, by the same chalk, as much as Lambert was an awful manager, being better than him doesn't really mean very much.

I thought Sherwood got it wrong today, and I thought the players were largely awful. Like last week and the week before.

I'm going to give him a chance next season once he can get his own players in (assuming Lerner lets him), but whilst we got a definite new manager bounce from him, and the bat shit attacking whilst not worrying about defence worked enough to keep us up, we were 19th when he came and 17th at the end of the season.

It's not the greatest of stories, really.

Today was partly his fault. Losing all the games under Lambert wasn't his fault.

Didn't he say something along the lines of he wanted to get rid of the losers in an interview last week?  That again was strange timing I thought.

Not as strange as opting to talk about Benteke's release clause on Friday. That was weird.

Why get drawn into that? Just bat it away and move on.

One of the things I didn't like about Sherwood before he came here was his propensity to say stupid shit at stupid times. I'm not about to start ringing the alarm bells, but when I heard that stuff about Benteke, I'll be honest, I did raise an eyebrow.

Hindsight is of course a wonderful thing and the horse has long bolted, but seeing how the two league games against them went I did wonder if Sherwood would tweak things a bit and bring Sanchez in as an extra defensive midfielder.  They are so good playing in that area between the opposition midfield and defence that employing the extra midfielder would help.

Yep talking to a lot of random people in the pubs down there today and no one could either understand or believe he said if.  It was like he was telling clubs to come and get him.

I did wonder about some of the build up this week, a lot of it didn't feel comfortable to me.  And if other players have already been told to find other clubs it tells me something has changed suddenly and he needs to accept responsibility for some of it.

As somebody mentioned on the post-match thread, it's going even further against his instincts, and we went too far against his instincts for my liking as it is.

Bringing in Hutton for Bacuna was the sign that we cared more about stopping them more than playing our own game. It was a very Lambert/McLeish thing to do. It didn't cost us the game in itself, but it was a sign of how we planned on things playing out.

Journos were saying that Tim was unusually subdued. Maybe he saw in the players that they just weren't right? Maybe he knows he's not going to get all the benteke money? Who knows?

If he doesn't get all the Benteke money then, to be honest, I'd quit if I were him, because frankly, it is going to take that much money even if we kept Benteke.

I thought he looked a bit subdued beforehand too, to be honest.

Something is not quite right I feel in the camp.
He has not really come out and said Sinclair is a great buy, although we know that this has been forced on him.
The team have looked pretty lethargic and seem uninterested over the past 3 games.
Bad timing with regards to tekkers contract clause, a day before final.
Now we find out, some players have already been spoken too.
Randy attempting to converse with Tim at finale, but Tim not having much of it, although I'm sure he felt shit at that moment in time.

He has help keep us up, a great motivator and confidence bringer.
But does he have the tactical brain to take on the bigger teams or change things when they are not going well.

I'm not gonna batter the guy, cos his charm has won me over a little, he will get the benefit of doubt for next season.
So fingers crossed and enjoy the roller coaster ride we call Aston villa.

Well I personally think he has to take his share of the blame today. Yes the players didn't turn up but playing this 2 number 10s system against Arsenal was asking for trouble. What makes you competitive against Arsenal is hard work rate and an ability to shut down space for their midfield. You aren't going to do that with NZog and Jack in the team.

there's no point though making stuff up to try and justify what happened today. Like why would the percentage of a transfer fee for a player that hasn't even been sold yet affect today's mindset of the manager? It was a really bad day for whatever reason. And maybe they just all froze. Maybe they didn't believe enough and the last couple of weeks have knocked the stuffing out of them. It could have happened against Liverpool in the SF had we lost to Spurs the game before. In the end we can only go by what we all saw and that is we didn't perform, and when you don't show up in a cup final, and then against a top side playing at the peak of their ability, the holders of the cup also, then it's not going to end well.

We were horribly flat today and played into Arsenal's hands and it was only a matter of time before we conceded, and there was nothing in the tank to get us back into the game. The actual why(s) may never be really known.
