I'm glad that I think all I said was it was uninspiring and underwhelming. I can be right if he turns out to be ace or shite! I have to say I was wrong though, he's lifted the whole place in a very short time.

The best "how wrong we were" style thing on here is a thread from the early Randy years, in which a few people were suggesting that Thierry Henry wasn't good enough for us anymore.

Thinking back, I reckon the most depressing threads were the ones from 2006-7 or so about how Randy's mate from IMG (Kain?) was going to promote our brand around the world etc etc. The pure excitement of it all.

They were more his body language etc rather than he's shit.

Did that Belgian bloke ever buy everyone those pints he promised? At least once a season I go and read the early Benteke thread just for the entertainment.

I was happy in that I rated him when he was in charge of Spurs, and of course also because he wasn't Lambert but like most people, not only would he not have been top of my wish list, he wouldn't have been on the wish list. I think at the time I said I was underwhelmed but optimistic and then went on to question if you could actually be both underwhelmed and optimistic.

The wrongest I was on here was probably defending MON in the later days. In spite of all evidence to the contrary, I believed he would change his ways. I was like the wife whose husband keeps having affairs: 'he promised it was the last time...'

I thought it was a shit appointment, yes.

It's probably worth pointing out that we're still very much in the relegation mix at the moment, so I won't be cutting myself a nice slice of any humble pie just yet.

It's hardly Sherwood's fault though. At the moment, he seems to be getting things right, which is a positive. Like you alluded to earlier in the thread, it probably is a bit too early to judge Sherwood as of yet. Many managers come in and give the team a good shake up and it has a positive effect. I'm impressed so far and hope he continues into next season. He's certainly got the self belief and it seems to be rubbing off onto the players which is a positive.

I once called myself out for having suggested there was a decent player somewhere in Alan Hutton, only for him to go and prove me wrong again.

I wasn't sure about Benteke when he first joined. I'm like a modern day Mystic Meg.

I still believed until his second season at Sunderland.

One of my favourites was that he's the new Marlon Harewood.

We were going nowhere except down so at the moment with us 15th and in a cup final he has done very well. Obviously after a full pre season and the effect of the new manager bounce wearing off he will be judged more so next season but so far so good.

I thought Heskey was the new Marlon Harewood and Marlon Harewood was the new Carlton Cole. I remember a blue nose mate of mine telling me what a great deal we had done getting rid of Crouch and bringing in Cole. I suspected at the time he was wrong.
