When Sherwood took over we were 18th, averaging less than half a goal a game (12 in 25 league games), our previous 10 league games were W0 D2 L8 and we scored twice in those 10 games. We were heading only one way. Under the circumstances he has done superbly so far.

humble pie is good for the soul. We all need it once in a while to bring us back to a level place in our lives. I wasn't happy about the appointment because I thought we should maybe have cast the net out a little further. That said, he's quickly won me over with every passing week, to the point that I am really looking forward to seeing what he might be able to achieve next season and hopefully beyond.

And the great thing about being wrong about Sherwood is that it means we are doing well, which ultimately is what every Villa fan wants.

The ability to hold your hand up & say your wrong is a beautiful thing in all facets of life, humility is a fabulous quality to have. And when it comes to being negative about Villa, who enjoys being right? I love being proven wrong, it means something positive is happening. Clark is my current slice of humble pie, who I thought had Championship player written all over him. Whilst I'm not getting as carried away as some, he still has too many errors in his game, he has developed into a better player than I thought possible.

Yes Clark and Baker have been the subject of some serious rewrites over the past couple of years

I don't think we were wrong in saying they were terrible and costing us points playing together at the time just that most of us had written them both off as 'championship at best'

Baker is still in that category for me presently, I have to admit, but it's hard to judge him after so many injuries, so I'll leave the door open for him. It's hard to judge any player in a team playing as badly as we've been for the last 4 years, it's inevitable some are better than we realise. It's also inevitable that some simply aren't good enough, which has contributed to the results. Clark still has a little way to go, he was at fault for the Swansea goal & should have seen red at Old Trafford, but he's making massive strides

It's good that he's got a sideline, especially with his injuries. And Lord knows the world, and specifically clowns, always needs oversized trousers.

Sorry.

I'm regularly reminded, every time I go for a beer with a few of my mates, that whilst watching England vs NI a few years where Steven Davis was the best midfielder on the pitch by a big margin I confidently predicted that he'd end up at Utd to replace Scholes and Villa would be £20-30m better off.

On the youngsters we have now I've generally always been a fan of Clark, he has the odd mistake in him but I expect that for a young centre half.  I'm starting to believe I may have been too early to judge Baker though who I always thought was too nervous in possession to ever make it.  It's still a concern but he's looked much better this season.

I am seriously impressed with this appointment. Mark my words, Sherwood will get Benteke firing, bring Grealish through, keep us up and take us to the cup final. Don't ask me how i know, I just do.

Many of us are married, so we have humble pie for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day anyway.

if you want a really good laugh, read the first few pages of this thread again

if your a regular poster it would probably be best viewed eating a big pie with a humble filling

From a different thread but nonetheless, this is pretty insightful...

The last microbe of optimism just rode out of town.

What was the last book you read?
I don't read books. I read the Daily Express and The Star.

You're not actually saying you think that to be serious?

Not entirely but if he'd said an actual proper book, even one by Dan Brown, I'd at least think there was a smidgin of a brain there. I'm sticking with my initial assessment that he is John Gregory reborn. Hopefully we're only paying him £50k a year too.
