Just looked it up, it went 60, 62, 64.

Ah that's it, I knew it was small increases but couldn't be bothered to look it up.

I honestly think he'll get this team firing. These players have had it too easy for too long, being protected by a very generous manager. Sherwood ain't that guy, stick it to this bunch and get them performing at an appropriate level.

I don't mind the appointment at all. Best of luck Tim.

Spot on!  I believe that this will be a very good appointment - no experienced manager would  guarantee success, here we have a hungry young manager who will kick a few backsides and if he can get somebody like Adebayor to perform then maybe he can get Gabby and Benteke to perform as well. He won't take any shit from the players. He was also responsible for bringing along the likes of Harry Kane at Spurs - maybe he'll sign him in the summer!!

I was right - as usual!

Harry Kane in the summer then  ;)
Believe it or not, having read the Bitter forums this morning, the Baggies fans are convinced that had they got Sherwood instead of Irvine then Kane would have been a West Brom player this season...and they have the audacity to call us deluded?!

Those who ridiculed Lambert for 'mumbling' occasionally took some stick, but to me it was absolutely germane to his abilities as a manager. The main requirement is an ability to communicate, and I'm convinced that many of the players would have had difficulty understanding Lambert. Particularly those for whom English was not their first language.

Sherwood is articulate and expansive, and I don't think it's any coincidence that the players suddenly look like they know what they're meant to be doing, both individually and collectively.

Sorry Sam don't buy that at all. His communication wasn't a problem at all because the team followed his instructions onto the pitch. They didn't play that because they were confused. And there have been plenty of successful managers with strong accents. Dalglish and Ferguson or Benitez as examples are hardly as clear as crystal when they speak yet they have been hugely successful over their careers.

Lambert's problem is Lambert and what he became. Nothing to do with his supposed mumbling.

Lambert's problem was blind acceptance and apologists that concluded that no one could do better with the squad available. Those who blamed Lerner, those who blamed the players were at fault.

Communication isn't just what words or mumbles come out of someones mouth...just look at the difference in body language and gestures between Lambert and Sherwood. The difference is night and day, and any player would react more positively to a manager that expresses and portrays confidence and determination...even a smile goes a long way and its no coincidence that the dressing room appears to be a much happier and confident environment.

He's certainly expansive. Not too sure about articulate, mind ;-)

One thing I noticed yesterday was how hard we worked to close Liverpool down when they had the ball in places we wanted it, and how we tried to keep the ball once we got it.

Which is pretty much *exactly* how Lambert had us playing for much of his first season, and is one reason why he still had such great support after such a horrible season.

I'll never understand why we stopped doing that under him.

Some of the stuff yesterday, especially down the left side between Delph, Grealish and Benteke was fantastic.  If it had been a Spanish team everyone would be wanking themselves crazy about the verve and technique.

Totally agree. The commentator over here was mentioning this how he couldn't recognize the players he saw flail around earlier in the season to the crisp passing and delightful creativity he sees now.

At the final whistle Sherwood didn't go chasing on the pitch celebrating like a loon, but calmly shook the hand of Rogers and his assistants in a respectful manner

Only a small thing but I thought that was class

Then he went chasing around celebrating like a loon

There may be something in that, TS has said that he'd disagreed with the Spurs hierarchy over Kane going out on loan, if he'd have gone to West Brom its not a massive leap to see him wanting Kane there for a season.

There was an interview with Sherwood by Martin Samuel (I know) just after he joined.  He apparently pointed to a photo frame of the villas 6-1 victory over Sunderland and basically said wtf is that about.  I like that about him.
