I wonder whether someone at the club saw Houllier's return to Liverpool and what we thought of it and forewarned him as to how to play it.
Thing is, he wasn't really known for being quick on his feet tactically when ramsay was by his side at spurs, either.

... Pleased overall. He might have to do a fair bit of rebuilding in the summer tho and there's no evidence on that part yet. If we have to replace vlaar, cleverley, Sinclair and benteke that will be a lot of work just to stand still
I've been surprised that he's been good tactically in many ways. A good blend of direct and passing football. Mixed up the formations quite a lot and it's worked in a fair few gamesTwo gripes. First, he doesn't change formation during the game. He should have against QPR. Mourinho would have switched formation within 30 seconds of them going 352And playing 442 with two wingers against Man United and swansea was an odd thing to do Pleased overall. Considering the injuries, and how low morale and confidence must have been when he arrived, I think he's doing a great job so far.
