it starts with him removing a framed picture of our 6-1 thrashing of Sunderland which he says celebrating that is embaressing for a club our size

Exactly.  Cant believe anyone thought putting it up was a good idea.  Smacks of small time.

Seems to fit with how Lambert approached things though.  The important thing from the interview, for me, was likening us to Everton, saying we can't battle and grind out results because we don't have that type of squad, we have a squad that should be keeping the ball and pushing for the europa league.  This is how I've seen it for a while, we have technically proficient players who were being asked to played a pulis-like style, that's why sso many of the palyers have looked so lost over the last couple of seasons.

It's part of the Lambert disconnect, he could find players to play a good style of football but then he had no idea how to use them so not only were we playing poor football but we were doing it with players who weren't suited to it.

Lerner commissioned a framed picture celebrating our 0-0 with Southampton last season too.

btw whats a smedley side parting ?

I wondered that myself so had a bit of a Google.  He's used the reference before in another article in The Mirror when he was Spuds manager:

Quote
Sherwood believes there are too many “side-parting, Smedley kids” among young footballers – a reference to the hairstyle and fashion label favoured by many of the game’s boyband lookalikes.

I thought it meant that their hair was smarmed down with jam.   Only those of us ancient enough to remember Smedley's jam will work out how I came to that rather amusing vision of Joe Bennett and Jack Grealish rubbing strawberry spread on their barnet before going out on the pull.

From what I've seen / read of Sherwood so far I can completely see how Fox having met & chatted with Sherwood a couple of times felt he was the man for the job.

Yes, he's cocky loud mouth but it's hard not to get swept up in his positivity.

Go On Tim!

I can understand American's falling for it. Timmy talks a good game. At no time does he mention the coaches he's brought in. Is it any surprise he surrounds himself, at least on the bench with 'yes men'? He's certainly spot on about the players being more elegant than hoofing survival teams but I do wish he'd shut the fuck up.

Saying that, he does, with the exception of giving the media a headline, seem very focused on the job at hand. I much preferred his post-match comments on TV, he looked and sounded exhausted and sounded driven without the 'it's all about me'. He's bringing some much needed confidence but when I hear him giving so much importance to how he has/will make Grealish a top player, I do wonder what will happen to players like Gil. I wonder how limited he is to see above the 'British' effort at Bodymoor Heath whilst ignoring the more calculated skillfull players. I hope he realises that you don't need every player to perform with their heart on their sleeve.

There's lots to like about him, he's saying all the right things but like UKIP, I do wonder how much he really understands the reality. Is it just popularism, is he like Lambert, his greatest strength is he isn't the previous manager? I guess we'll soon find out but one thing I do agree with him.. and it's massive, is we need to play to our strengths. For that alone, he's a breath of fresh air.

Yes men?

I think you do need every player to be working as hard as possible. He hardest working side off the ball I have ever see. We're Baraclona in their pomp. Also the best I've ever seen.

I keep hearing small details about what Sherwood's doing and they're so shockingly obvious that it really puts Lambert in a bad light. Not a large enough coaching staff, U21's not playing near the first team and now a picture from a league game. It makes me think Lambert might have a hard time getting another job.

I know it seems like a life time ago but remember the first couple of games this season?

First few games of the season can be very misleading until teams settle down but what's your point?

Is it not also possible that Lambert kept that picture around to remind the players of how well they can play? I mean, I agree with taking it down, but the idea that it was there for no reason other than small-time pride seems a bit unfair.

There are many things which people say they 'like' about Sherwood, and I don't happen to like many of them. The gobbing off to the press is pretty embarrassing and undignified, the jumping around like a maniac is, at best, unimportant (and possibly hypocritical, as he talks about them playing with freedom one minute then is shouting and swearing at them all through the game like John Beck the next), and the constant references to Spurs make me wonder why people don't react to that, but went mental at Gerard Houllier for a couple of things he said about Liverpool.

The only thing which he's done that I did like, however, just happened to be the most important thing, i.e. we won a game and played really well in it. More of that, and a little less gobbing about 'that Pochettino, and I'll be happy.

Have you learnt nothing from MON or Lambert? Don't worship false gods. Just because he's not DOL/MON/Lambert it doesn't mean he's the new messiah.

Well I wasn't worshipping Lambert after the first couple of games. I thought pre season we would go down as his signings didn't inspire me. I do think Sherwood's positivity is what's required at the moment and may well result in a short term improvement. As for the future? Let's get the last 10 league games done first.
We had forgotten how to win a game and some of the players had lost there way. What I witnessed on Tuesday was very encouraging and suggests he has got into the minds of some of the team. I don't think anybody is getting carried away though.

The office that he has been in for two weeks, he suddenly realises that an offending picture from the Sunderland game is on the wall just as he sits down to talk with a journalist from the Daily Mail?

It's good stage management, certainly.

Part of this is probably showing/getting players into "we're big club" mentality and getting their condidence back on track.
