True - then again it's more effective than any of our combinations.

One sign of how appalling we've been over the last few years is the way we make Morrison and Brunt look like Lothar Matthaus and Ferenc Puskas every time they play in a derby. Not to mention Shane Long playing as if he's found Billy's boots.

Just read that he's watched all this season's games back. Fair play - I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. It's bad enough when you don't know what the end result was.

Stirring things up and hoping they come at us might actually help us employ our one and only tactic

I don't have an issue with anything he's said. In fact I would much rather what he has said to the constant apology that became Lambert, where we went into games draped in white flags. What's way more important is how we set up tonight, and tactics he enploys to break down what will be a solid Albion defense. If we play "lump it up to Benteke ball" all night we'll lose. But if after a couple of weeks he has started to instil a style of play, a mixed tactical approach, and ultimately a real sense of urgency and drive we'll have a good chance of arresting this slide and getting something positive from the game.

I think that's our only chance, TV. We all know this side are far more capable of playing more than decent football, it's been the tactics that have castrated them. As a former and more than decent midfielder, you'd hope Sherwood can see the importance of winning the midfield battle, the boys will have to be strong, compete like we did at the beginning of the season, get in faces and support both the defence and just as importantly, the attack.

You're right. My impression is he has really got into them this week, and we will start fast tonight. He has to change the culture down there while at the same time changing results. Sherwood was a team captain on a team that won the PL so won't be used to losing games at this level. From all that we've read about his character from former players he hates to lose and is very driven. It won't be enough off course because he isn't playing, and he will need to convey proper plan and tactical approach to his players this evening to get us a win

My thinking is that if we're to get out of this mess, we need to abandon any pretence of being hard to beat and commit players forward as much as possible. The only thing that is going to improve our confidence is start hitting the onion bag.

yes but in our situation, it would have been a huge gamble taking a punt on anyone who hasn't managed in England before. Or anyone with less than a few years proven experience for that matter.........oh!!!
