According to him he said "yes" before even negotiating his comp.

Compensation from whom?

I think he means contract with the Villa...

UTV
The Doc

Correct. He said yes before talking about what he would be paid.

I think the truth of the matter is that few, if anyone knows how good a manager Tim Sherwood is, or could become; because there is simply not enough data.

Tom Fox's coin has been flicked, and we'll know soon enough though.

One thing is for sure .Stoke on Saturday is a very important match for Tim Sherwood and the Villa supporters in general. A win would be most helpful in seeing a positive future.

I did not want Sherwood. He was not in the top ten of my preferred candidates but I accept, and all I hope from other loyal Villa supporters is the acceptance of the reality that we are third bottom, up for sale, owned by a man who appears to have lost interest in the sport and the club and we face stringent financial constraints and bearing all those things in mind Tom Fox made the best of a bad job.  Finding fault in Sherwood is as easy as it is counterproductive. He needs a chance and I shall give him a chance. What you do is up to you. As for me attacking the Guardian, it is true that since it went Lib Dem I no longer care for it but I number several of its finest journalists of the 60s and 70s as personal friends but I still regard it as no more or less than tomorrow's chip wrapping.

I am not being hysterical. I want objectivity. Quoting the Grauniad like some Delphic oracle gets on my tits. I have worked with the Grauniad on and off for nearly 50 years. There are as many off target journalists there as there are in the red tops.

Philippe Auclair works for the Guardian as well as many other outlets - I just heard him on their podcast. I just said he expressed what I thought, and offered a bit of insight unavailable to me. You're still just playing the man not the ball - actually, you're not even playing the man, because you have no reason to discredit Auclair, just the Guardian as a whole.
Regardless of some of the dross that the Guardian have writing for them, Phillipe Auclair is a brilliant football writer.

It's a winnable fixture. Massive game.

You clearly haven't read it in a good while if you thing the Guardian has gone Lib Dem.

Its nothing I haven't heard  from my lads coaches when he used to play schools football.  I hope he has more to offer than this.

What else do you expect him to say to the media?

Monty out of interest what do you think of AVB? Is he a chancer?

AVB's the opposite of Sherwood, in that his tactical thinking is very serious (though he does still make big mistakes, like everyone) and he does all that hard work but clearly has huge difficulties in managing actual human beings. The difference is that AVB might learn to get better, because he has shown himself open to introspection and self-improvement, and to thought. Sherwood, by contrast, seems completely convinced that he's the canine's cajones.

Not picking a fight but I'd like to hear some examples of Tim Sherwood thinking he knows everything and isn't open to self improvement.

AVB and tactics; spread back four as far apart as possible, push full backs onto flank and 15 yards higher than they should be. Vaseline optional.

Managers make mistakes, Sherwood included. If we're criticising him for getting it wrong on occasions, I wouldn't use AVB as some sort of shining example of learning, when we have all seen his Spurs side take a humping because of his bizarre shape and set up.

True that. One of the few football journalists out there I pay any mind to.

Let's put it this way. The gate has gone from 23k to 35k plus for a game versus Stoke. Villa fans just needed to feel a pulse to get back to doing what they love, and really feeling passionate about the club again. Up until this appointment we were as good as dead. The pulse was really faint. Surely that counts for something.

I've gone from dread to excitement for our matches. Hopefully the players will feel the same.
