Where is the obligatory useless Woodward interview???

Lots of Hoddle rumours as number 2, which while it would make a lot of sense, I can't see if a couple of Journalists are right that Tim and Glenn are not best of friends.

Back to the positives, the bloke does seem to always go balls out to try and win games. After the recent past a manager who is simply unafraid to have a go will be refreshing.

I can see why people compare Sherwood's appointment with Gregory's, but I don't think it's quite the right analogy.
His appointment at Spurs was more akin to Gregory getting the managers job with us, as both stepped into the roles already knowing most of the squad and the Club.

I'd argue that in the short term, Gregory was far less of a risk than Sherwood is, as Gregory had already proved he could get the best out of that squad - it had all started to go to shit after he left for Wycombe.

Anyway, he might be a gobshite, but for now he's our gobshite and we can only hope he can pull 14/15 points out of the next 13 games to give us a chance.

This is a wank appointment. I hope to God I'm wrong.

It's likely I'd be underwhelmed by almost any appointment we could make, if I'm honest. However, I really think this is an extremely poor decision. We could well stay up still, the squad of players is good and often any change is refreshing enough to galvanise a team. In addition, Sherwood is certainly an ebullient character, and often down at the bottom what you need is a wave of emotion to carry you through.

However, unless Sherwood has changed drastically in the last few months, I think the long-term will be extremely disappointing. The guy is very arrogant, and seemingly incapable of acknowledging that he's made any mistakes, preferring to blame the players 'lack of character' if he's made a catastrophic tactical fuck-up - and he makes plenty of those, as he's also, in the words of one Spurs fan, 'proudly and aggressively ignorant of the basics of football tactics'.

Why do we keep appointing this kind of manager? Why always the thoughtless passion-mongers? Why do we see smaller clubs around us go for forward-thinking, tactically aware managers, often from abroad, and continue to appoint old-school British guys who don't even have a clue that they don't have a clue? It's really wearying.

I agree with most of this. I don't want a manager a who "will give the players a kick up their backside", allthough that might work in the short term. I want a manager who knows what he is doing. Most of the evidence I've seen so far indicate that Sherwood doesn't.

Based on?

Some of his selections and formations at Spurs I'd imagine.

Based on?

The few times I watched Spurs under Sherwood they looked like a disorganised and disjointed team without a proper game plan, relying on the brilliance of individuals to get something out of the match. Sherwood watched on the sidelines, and, while I agree that one shouldn't put too much emphasis on this, he looked clueless, and had an air of incompetence and arrogance about him. So the reports that he has an aggressive ignorance of the fundamental football tactics don't seem implausible. His inclination to shift the blame also fits, possibly because he is too lazy and ignorant to analyse what went wrong.

I agree that this isn't enough to conclude that he will certainly be a failure. Hopefully the reports about his character and knowledge are inaccurate, and my impression stems from a wish that that he would be a failure as Spurs manager. However, I struggle to be optimistic.

That would be a quick way to get the fans onside. Laursen in the dugout as coach with a more experienced assistant would certainly carry good will.

Fair enough, however his win rate was pretty good, we also have good players who also seem to have been been starved of flair. Maybe he can get them going. Time will tell

I think the biggest negative it is is very clear the board did not even consider looking overseas for a more sophisticated manager. Bit naff that.

But you know what, we were all fairly happy when lambert got the job. The club having got their man this time if fair enough. It seems pretty obvious he was identified by Fox a while back as his first choice.

But is he a good coach? I'm all for sentiment and that, but we need people that know what they're doing. Some club legends don't cut it as non-playing staff.

He was doing his badges when interviewed last year some time. I would have him around just to teach them how to attach a corner!!
