A bit sad and bewildered by half the thread calling him all manner of negative things. He's got his badges so is not just some thick fucker from the wrong side of the Watford gap. He has an impressive record of developing youth cf. bringing through the hottest property in English football right now and if his motivational powers are good enough to get Adebayor looking consistently good are owt to go by, who knows how much he may be able to coax from Benteke, N'Zog and our other talented under-performers?

I think he will galvanize us, its about time we had a bit of brazen arrogance about the place, we've been far too nice for years. So, welcome Tim. Fook the begrudgers - unless you start acting the twat and cant turn us around.

Well said, have a bit of swagger. Might not work but we've tried pussy-footing around for too long now. Let's all see what happens.

I think we could be in big trouble.  They should have sacked Lambert sooner which would have meant that they didn't have to rush this appointment.  He may surprise us but I can't see it.

I hope I'm wrong but he strikes me as the kind of guy who thinks we are lucky to have him. Probably because he has association with such giants of the game as Tottenham hotspurs.

I can see why you'd say that, but he's started well in the 'right thing to say' stakes.

Massively underwhelmed by the appointment and staggered by the length of the contract.  Yet again the judgement of those running the club has got to be called into question.

All that said, there's no choice but to get behind him now.  Wouldn't be surprised if another appointment on the football side is made soon.

Why are you bothered about the contract. Its only just over 2 years. Why would he join on a short term appointment?

There will be clauses about getting rid of him if we are relegated with little compensation

Completely agree, people on here act like they know everything. For all we know there are all sorts of clauses in that contract.

"It is a great honour to manage one of the biggest clubs in English football at last" is what he really meant to say

I am another one who has not got over the initial reactions and am now warming to the idea.
We need a fresh approach, someone who is not going to be afraid to ruffle some feathers and he might be just what we need.
If he has an ego, so what? So does Mourinho.
Maybe, just maybe that will also make him a winner.

Good luck Tim.

He also apparently turned down a number of other jobs in this past season. I think he will certainly respect us as a big club.

Kind of a meh appointment but I'm glad we've got someone in quick. If he keeps us up he's good with me and will earn the chance at a full season in charge. Contracts mean nothing so I couldn't care less if its 3.5 years. He'll keep his job if he gets results and will lose it if he doesn't. If Lerner really is still looking to sell a new owner will more than likely bring in his own manager anyway.... Unless Tim turns out to be gold.

Welcome Tim and keep us up!

Excellent article and one for the statto's. Bottom line in his short spell at Spurs, more points on average than AVB, but happened to play a more expansive game. Scored more goals on average, but conceded more. He'll open things up, and we do have a decent defence. I guess we can only see what will happen.

StatsBomb

We're crying out for a more expansive game and have been since Lambert came in. Seeing our wider players attacking fullbacks rather than crowding each other in the middle was so frustrating. And indeed if it means we don't put the onus on width entirely on our fullbacks, that's a good thing. I would hope Benteke will thrive. Gabby's also fairly good in the air with the right delivery too. We have Gil, Grealish, Zogbia, Sinclair and indeed Gabby, who all have the ability to get at full-backs. There are probably about a dozen fully's at most in this league who can actually defend. We've not exploited that for years.

Perhaps Sherwood might actually deliver on what Lambert always promised. A bit of entertainment. A slightly gung-ho mentality, which he had at Norwich but didn't bring. I always expected 3-2 wins and 3-2 defeats in roughly equal measure. Those kind of results and a solid mid-table finish with Lambo. We didn't get that. Only for 5 months did we ever look a side with goals in us.

Here's hoping for some entertainment anyway. Spurs were quite good to watch under him. The subtlety of a hammer to the skull, but it did work. Of course they had the quality, but we've got more than enough attacking quality here. It should be our biggest strength. Our attack minded players are better than our defenders in my opinion.

Agree and hope you're right.

With a rumour that he may have been sounded out by Villa a short while ago, I wonder if he turned other clubs down to wait for the job to become available. Thinking, possibly, that he'd have to wait til the summer, when Randy really wanted to sack Lambert, rather than now?

I don't think the decision was rushed.  Someone, I can't recall who, posted recently that Sherwood had been seen in the company of Fox on at least two occasions and, he (Sherwood) had been photographed recently at Villa Park.  It suggested to the poster, and me, that Sherwood was being courted, we can't say tapped-up as he was unemployed.  That to me, and I stress that this is my opinion, that this put unfair added pressure on Lambert as if we knew about it; he sure as hell did.

Lambert would know that in football every club has a loaded gun in the chairman's desk draw, it's in the DNA, but when you hear the trigger being cocked it does nothing to instil any kind of confidence in either manager and players.  I'm no Lambert apologist, I voted to sack him, but I find those meetings unethical.

Well I'm fully behind him now. We have to be. Fingers crossed now. The players are equally responsible and I hope to see a reaction. I dont know if Benteke is sulking or desperately struggling for form but if it is largely the former then I hope for a lot more. I've given up on Gabby. I suspect his mind is as slow as his feet used to be fast.
