Again, absolute conjecture. I would bet my house on the fact that a multi million pound company has looked at and considered more than one person for the most important position within its management structure. You however, have made up your mind and seem to believe you have inside knowledge as to how Tottenham Hotspur conduct training and Aston Villa conduct recruitment procedures. I imagine you don't but am happy to be proven wrong. Go for it.

It's been widely reported that they only interviewed Sherwood.

Welcome Mr Sherwood do us proud!

Give the guy a chance. For several months now most people have been saying anyone is better Lambert. He's gone (thank God) and Sherwood has arrived.

IMO the damage has been done for this season.  I won't blame Sherwood if we go down. The blame lies much higher up.

Jimbo - I acknowledge that we're not as big as we were, and I only really dreamed of the Klinnsman/Prandelli level. But there's got to be something between that level and the level of Sherwood, and our brilliant recruitment team didn't even look - they only interviewed one man.

The fact that they only interviewed him and that they clearly did it with the Lambert still in charge are the two most disappointing things for me. I don't know how it will all turn out, but we should have looked much further than we did. If we started this process two or three weeks ago then we should have spoken to others at that time too.

I think you are right TV, not that we can be totally sure who was sounded out. I genuinely think there are very, very few candidates right now. We are a huge gamble for any manager to take on, but if someone could get it right, their reputation is there for the making

Fans need consider at this point in time for else was there at short notice

Wgere we went wrong was not sacking lambert three months or even six months ago when the manager pool was much greater!

I believe he will get more out of these players something we as fans have been demanding

To me it's time the fans united and gave the guy a chance!

With lambert we were down so can he do any worse

I have to question how the manager pool was much greater three or six months ago. Who are all these managers that we could have got then that we couldn't have got now? Off the top of my head I can only think of two, Moyes and Pulis.

Is it possible to be underwhelmed but open minded or is there a contraction in there?
That's pretty much how I feel.

All this negativity from the same people who championed the appointment of Lambert. Frankly I'd be more worried if we appointed a manger most on here were happy with. Give the geezer a chance!!

I was against the appointment of Lambert - does that mean I get to moan about Sherwood?

Really? Or was it more that you were more cautious or sceptical than others? I don't recall you ever being outwardly against him.

No, I was dead against his appointment. He then said all the right things when he first got here so I got a bit more warm about it. But ultimately, my initial feeling that he was essentially another British plodder was, sadly, proven right.

Richard - I just asked a question, it wasn't meant bitchily or anything. I just genuinely don't know what that phrase means in practical terms.

No, I understand Monty. I guess we are all faced with giving people a chance in our work etc whom we don't necessarily like and had no influence over appointing. I've certainly had to and sometimes it works out and they prove you wrong, other times your concerns are confirmed

I suppose giving someone a chance while disliking that person means not continually bringing up that you dislike the person while he does his job. Otherwise how does your opinion ever truly change?

He is here. He is not going to go away even if we get relegated. Lets hope he gets in a good support team (which does not include the name Ray Wilkins) and lets give him some backing.

As others have pointed out the interviews should be clearer.

If he brings in either Brad or Ugo that might help a bit with the fans.

So starting tomorrow, good luck Tim Sherwood.

Sherwood had an instant affect at Spurs when he took over from AVB. Let's hope he can do the same for Villa over the next 3 months and keep us up.

Can we nail this lie / misconception once and for all

He didn't turn around a failing Spurs team.

He took a squad that was worth several hundred million pounds, full of players still getting to know each other, and kept them precisely where he found them.

I hope he has a top backroom team behind him because the players have obviously had shit coaching for a while now.

I think my grip is fine.
Your grip is clearly not fine.

I'm as uninspired by his appointment as the next man, but what did you expect in mid February? I agree that the powers that be at VP have a terrible record with managerial appointments, but in this case sherwood is not the mistake. The mistake was extending Lambert's contract and then not sacking him in December. I would be more concerned about staying in this division with Prandelli in charge than I am with Sherwood, regardless of who I would like to see shaping our direction long term. Now we just have to get behind Sherwood til the end of the season, and pray that he can do the business. What might just change drag us out of this mess is the change of atmosphere that accompanies a new manager. I for one am determined not to perpetuate the negativity that has developed around the club recently, as this will see us relegated.

You said they didn't even look. My point is that you have no idea how many people they have looked at, how many meetings they have had, how many candidates were considered. How do you know they didn't draw up a short list of 15 potential candidates, dedicate a head hunting team to collate information and professional opinions on all of them, have a set of  in depth selection  discussion meetings, whittle it down to a first choice and a second choice. Then Meet their first choice man, hear all the right things and hire him to give him maximum time to sort us out
