[snip]… and it was Villa park and we were the Villa. We ARE the Villa and everyone else can just get in the fucking sea.

Amen to this! Wherever we end up it'll always be the Villa and I wouldn't swap this club for any.

I don't think I've ever known traffic as bad for that Man United game.

I saw parts of the West Bromwich and Walsall areas that I never even knew existed

Not up to date as they seem a bit slow updating info, but gives an idea of away support so far this season down there.

It's good to see MK Scabs continuing one Wimbledon tradition.

Its no fun at all going down but if we have a decent season always being in contention near the top that will for me be more enjoyable than the recent miserable seasons breaking every shit record the club has ever known, if/when it happens it will feel awful for a while and we will be in mourning, but after a summers rest we will get over it and look forward to the first game of the season, no matter what division were in were The Villa, I'm old enough to have seen the 67, 70, 87 relegations and I am prepared for this one should it happen.

If we do go down I really don't think we will stay there very long. The shit that the Sky years have fettered upon football has produced clubs like us. Not necessarily that we can't compete with the top teams in the Prem but our debt to Lerner is manageable enough for us to use the parachute payments plus any transfer budget to bounce back. There simply isn't any clubs as big as us in the Championship at the moment. If we do go down I'd prefer a Newcastle or to a lesser degree a Sunderland to not go down with us as for size they would be competitors.

Clearly there are clubs with decent teams in the Championship but even if we were to play all 24 of them at the moment home and away I'd fancy us. We'll get better players for the division, get decent return on the ones going and will be able to be the biggest pull, or one of the biggest pulls, in the Championship. It will be crucial to add a few with quality to the team and fill in with the odd Championship level player (on top of the 11 we've got now...).

i don't think we'd stay there and it wouldn't be like the 60s when we fell through two divisions. Sky, and Lerner, has ensured we'r we're too big, and to financially stable to do that.

I don't think we will stay there very long either but not in the way you imagine. The gutless bunch of chancers in our squad will struggle in what is a physical and competitive league and could easily drop straight through. It's happened before and I fear it could happen to us. I just hope I'm wrong.

Fun or not I think its a nailed on certainty, looking at Leicester last year in the same position they had almost double our points tally. Disaster doesn't even come close to describing this season. Even the Bluenoses have taken pity on our plight........

I had a few freebies for Wolves v Forest last night. Two average mid table championship level teams and i can honestly say they both looked better balanced teams than we do. I can't believe folks really think we'll be bouncing back without a problem

And then imagine their defences facing Gil, Adama, Sinclair, Grealish. Even Gabby and Gestede would have a field day down there.

I think its hard to tell though, because players who look useless in the PL can sometimes look more effective Championship players.  It will be tough though, a lot depends on the set up at the time and us having a game plan.  Lets face it the way things are going we should have plenty of time to plan ahead...

Or it could be that some of us aren't so miserable as others.

It's very hard to turn around a club with a culture of losing and failure. So no matter how 'big' a club we are, or how much money we'd have at our disposal, we have to first eliminate the pervasive attitude of complacency and apathy at the club.

Meanwhile, every grubby little shithouse of a club will be lining up to have a pop at us with a nothing-to-lose attitude. The Villa Park games in particular will be cup finals for a lot of teams. If we don't get off to a flying start we'll struggle to stamp that losing culture out.

We like to think the likes of Gil and Adama would crucify the rubbish defences of the Championship. Maybe they would, but how do we know they'll want to stick around at a Championship club? Our first starting eleven might look very different than the one that starts tomorrow.

Was it Sir Graham Taylor who said something about the demise of big clubs? Once they start to sink, it's very, very hard to stop them plummeting under their own weight.
