One thing I remember about Sheffield United in that season was that the coppers were absolutely up for a bit of trouble. Barging into people, being heavy handed, trying to get people to kick off. It was absolutely blatant.South Yorkshire police were always bad for that. A couple of years later, we found out just how bad they really were, sadly.
