6000 must be the biggest away attendance since Sunderland had about 10/15/20? thousand in the ground in our promotion season from Second Div in 1975?

Arsenal brought well over 10,000 for the League Cup quarter final in 1984, Wolves had about as many at the FA Cup game in 1983. When the Witton End/North Stand lower was still terracing it held 5,500 on its own and was filled many times plus whatever the club had in the old Witton Lane stand. That's without Everton in the league in 1987, which almost reached the number Small Heath took to Bruges.

And I'm sure Yanited bought near enough 10,000 down for the league cup 3rd game in 1992 (and how bonkers does that look now? A gate of 40,000 and 10,000 away fans early in the league cup)

'83-'84 was when Walsall knocked them out.
I am trying to think of what the biggest cup following we will have taken in recent years. The FA Cup isn't our friend is it, so I suppose Sheffield United away under Houllier perhaps? That end holds about 5,500. I have always thought Sheffield Wednesday would be a good place for an FA Cup 4th round game. Saturday 3pm, not too far, a good 6000 tickets on offer in a classic ground.
