Instead of calling sir Alex why don't Lerner just give the chairman of Southampton a call,
casually try dropping into conversation who he would be going for next if he needs to replace his manager

Then go get him

My apologies for today's result. It was good debut and I thank the fans for the support. #AVFC

What a lovely boy! Don't you just love him?!
Did my ears deceive me or did that fucking wanker of a stadium announcer announce him as "Barry Bannan" when he came on yesterday?  Welcome to the fucking biggest circus in town Carles! :-[

Not read the thread yet we go back and read .

I'm still pissed off with that team he started with , all week he's been saying we need creativity and he starts with that midfield .

I looked at the Liverpool team and thought , these are beatable , lets have a go at these at least but no , so predictable.

Cleverly can f##k off now , he's shit and don't want to even play for us .

Gabby is finished as a prem player , he will be a championship player with us next season at this rate.

So we were poor for about 60 mins  and should have been 3 down before he made the subs.

Gil looked good , just makes me think if lambert had bought this kind of player two seasons ago when the average fan knew we were crying out for one .

So good for ten minutes with a couple of chances and then the second goal killed us .

This club is in serious trouble.

I don't know how good Gil is , he's only a 3million pound player from  Valencia whom he hardly played for , but we have  been so dire with no creativity at all , even Gil was a refreshing change in that team and it was just nice to see it.

A position lambert should have sorted ages ago and spent proper money in that area instead of some other areas he did.

Funny part was when Gill beat a player, looked to lay it off to his right... but there was no width, then turned in side to pass it out left and again no overlap... He'll learn.

Haven't read the thread (just got in) but I can guess what the usual suspects are saying. The thing is we have several good players who would benefit from a change of management and coaching. Unfortunately the two employees that should be leaving the club that is Lambert and Agbonlahor are guaranteed a job for as long as they like. We have players in form mainly Sanchez and Hutton and Guzan and players like Delph and Benteke who have the skill level to do well in this hard league. This manager appears to have bought a skillful player in Gil and Okore looks like he will be a big success in time.

I would make Lambert chief scout and get a progressive manager in as soon as possible. Offer the job to Frank Lampard. Tell him he can play as well.

Its not all bad news, but time is starting to run out for the needed changes.

Ron,

I actually dreamt our new manager was frank lampard last week. Strange

Checked the Gabby stat from earlier, in fact it is 29 goals, all competitions, in his last 151 games, just the stuff that Captains and Inspiration is made from in Mr. Lamberts eyes. God help us..

Aston Villa. All fart and no shit since 2012.

Aston Villa.  Severely constipated since May 2011.

Eight hours and forty-two minutes without a goal. Hungarian director Bela Tarr's excruciating and unremittingly grim film 'Satantango' is only seven hours and twenty minutes long. In the film there's a 10-minute-long shot of a field of cows, in the rain. There's a cat torture scene. There are demoralised peasants drinking themselves to death in it. It's in black and white. And yet - and yet - it's still infinitely more cheery, palatable and life-affirming than Aston Villa under Paul Lambert and Randy Lerner.

I'm off to drink a jerry can of red diesel and hang myself in a Hungarian cattle shed.

Thank you, you have cheered me up massively  :D

I guess players like Gil are 10 a penny in Spain but almost non existence in UK. You only have look at Spain and Barca midfield over the last ten years and go by players who were almost world class but couldn't make it into those two teams to realise that there is a production line.

If you go to Barcelona and you are of average height, say 5 foot ten inches and you are walking down the Ramblas, look ahead of you and you will be looking over most of the people and of the others, most of them will be tourists. The  Spanish are a very short, stocky and wiry people by and large.   Statistically they suffer the least from the two height related ailments of western society, slipped discs and piles.   However, their concept of football is not Roy Race or Roy of the Rovers stuff with great bullocking centre forwards ramming bullet headers in the net.   Their view of our style of football is contemptous of its obsession with physicality and neglect of brain and imagination. And God do we need some brain and imagination in our team at the moment.
