Nathan Baker has declared himself "ready for action" ahead of tomorrow's match against Liverpool.

The centre-back has faced a frustrating nine-week spell on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury in the goalless draw at West Ham in early November.

Villa are down to the bare bones on the central defender front with Ron Vlaar and Philippe Senderos injured and Ciaran Clark suspended.

So Baker looks set to partner Jores Okore in the heart of the claret and blues' backline.

He is looking forward to linking up with the Danish defender and eager to grace the Villa Park turf once more.

He said: "I'm feeling good. I've just come back from injury and it's been good to be back training.

"It's been frustrating. I've been out for nine weeks now.

"I came back at the start of last week and have trained since.

"I got on the bench against Leicester and it was good to be back involved.

"My return has come right on time. They said nine weeks exactly.

"I feel ready to play. There are only two available centre-backs so hopefully I'll be involved.

"Jores and I have played together in pre-season and we see each other and work together every day in training.

"In training he's just like what you see in the games really.

"He's strong, a good tackler and quality on the ball."

Baker received the man of the match award in Villa's single-goal victory at Anfield in September.

And the 23-year-old sees no reason why his side cannot take maximum points against the Reds.

He added: "It was a good game for me up there but I was just doing my job, defending and keeping the ball out of the net.

"I think everyone looks at the previous game where we've played each other.

"Hopefully that's in the back of their minds as well.

"I think whatever team Liverpool put out, it will always be strong.

"But we're confident going into it."

Wouldn't play Gabby at home, he can't seem to find space, he is very static and his touch is awful. We need to do more business because Weimann is no threat either. Suppose it will have to be at least one of them as we have no alternatives I guess.
I hope Delph is told to not be over concerned about defending and to try and play close to the front men. When are we going to see a goal from a midfielder, don't think we've had one so far?
