Birmingham City scored a moral victory over deadly rivals Aston Villa today when they won the right to stage their FA Cup fourth round tie on their preferred date - with a coin toss.

Blues face West Bromwich Albion at St Andrew’s while Villa were also drawn at home to Bournemouth, much to the concern of West Midlands Police.

With both games scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 24, Blues asked the police to use their heads and tails to decide.

Blues won and will kick-off at St Andrew’s at 3pm on the Saturday with Villa Park hosting goal-laden Bournemouth at 3pm the following day.

A statement on bcfc.com proclaimed: “As West Midlands Police would not allow for our match and the Villa v Bournemouth FA Cup tie to take place on the same day, we had to ask West Midlands Police to conduct an independent toss of a coin to decide who would play on the Saturday.

“Blues won the coin toss; therefore the match will be played on Saturday, January 24 2015 (3pm kick-off).
