By calling them a troll? Yes, that's how you disagree with someone. Anyway, I like the Risso/fibrai idea of a gas lamp and 4 blokes around it. In front of the Holte would be nice as there's quite a bit of space there. Would prefer in front of the Trinity but wouldn't want that area to become too cluttered.

I like that idea too.

I say again - why, where's the demand and what will you do to see this project finished?

Weird thread. Three people, including two moderators, seem rather vociferous about peter w's post.

Sometimes people just have an opinion on something.

I agree with you bob.

You're on the wrong forum.

I'm ashamed to say I actually know who the 4 founders are. What are their names?

Hughes, Matthews. Price and Scattergood.

Matthews, Hughes, Scattergood and Price. I would argue that in a wider context only Jack Hughes is of great significance and then only because he kept records which form the bulk of our early years knowledge.

A replica gas lamp outside the ground somewhere would be quite a nice idea I think. A nod to history without going down the full blown statue route.

Like that.

Slight tangent but I've always thought Rinder deserves more recognition than he gets.

There could be a copper plate on the wall under the lamp with 4 heads in relief etched onto it (in caps) and the four names underneath. And... 'The great idea' underneath, with the address. And the date! (1874 would be fine)

I am very literal. It's not dead artistic but it does represent the magic moment.

I'd have him as the all-time number two behind Ramsay.

There's no proof of the date.

I was gonna suggest Ramsay. I reckon Rinder, Ramsay, McGregor and Hunter are the four most significant men in our early era. Not necessarily in that order.
