The sneaky kick on Balotelli ,I'm worried they'll punish him retrospectively as the ref didn't see it.

If they do review it, they will also see the shoves from Mario on Swiss Phil just before his trip/half kick. They were at each other no doubt.

I thought that was the perfect away game by Villa today, the first 20 minutes we played some excellent stuff took the lead then PL changed formation and almost totally snuffed Liverpool out for the rest of the game by the whole team working their socks off and limiting Liverpool to just one shot on target.

Well done to PL for his tactics today, that was the first time in a long while I could totally relax for the whole of the second half watching us defend a one goal lead.

I agree to an extent but I always think these 'deserved wins' after a backs-to-the-wall performance are pretty fickle. Coutinho's shot flies in, what then? It's all what ifs but ultimately Liverpool didn't do enough today. I'm not convinced that playing without any attacking intent for most of the game is the way to go.

We certainly wont be the last team to approach anfield like that. They scored over 100 goals in the league last season, and even minus Suarez and Sturridge had a plethora of attacking talent at their disposal. I think our game plan was absolutely spot on. Liverpool are all about attack, so that was what we had to focus on. We'll do the same against Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea I'd imagine.

We also showed plenty of attacking intent in the opening stages. When you get ahead you've got something to sit on and we did so and kept them largely quiet.

Not sure they can do anything retrospectively with an incident like that. And in all honesty, Balotelli went down very easily. He just flicked his leg out a little. Crazy Mario made a meal of it. They had a good battle throughout the game but Big Phil came out on top.

The thing is, I think it was more than just a great defensive shift - which brings images of desperate blocks and last ditch tackles - it was an excellent display of organisation.

It's not as if we were hanging on to any great degree, it was an excellent tactical display from start to finish.

There's no reason why we'd play like that every week, but we were away to a team who scored gigantic shed loads of goals last season.

It also overlooks the fact we were the team most likely to score for the first twenty minutes.

But that's exactly my point, why not carry on playing like that? We looked great at that point, could have gone on and scored more. These type of performances either end up being described as superb and deserved when the opposition are wasteful but it can also backfire as it did on numerous occasions last season. Of course it's great that we got the win today, ironically 2 years ago we won even more convincingly there.

We won and we had some brilliant performances too, it was also against a team who have been tipped to win the league With a net spend of 100+ M against our little 8 million outlay.

I think once we get these next 4 out the way we'll see a more adventurous Villa side, particularly as we'll have the Beast back by then too and players like TC, Sanchez and Richardson will be well and truly settled in (hopefully).

Absolutely without question the thing that has improved exponentially this season has been our organisation. No surprise it comes with having a few more experienced heads in the team.

I think the fact we have two experienced and physical fullbacks help the centre halves big time, especially from set pieces. Also, credit to Westwood yet again, his delivery from Fredericks and corners was excellent - he has had a great 4 league games so far.
