Liverpool controlled the gme, had most of the possession, at home, and we nicked it one-nil. Classic smash and grab.
OK I was at the match I didn't have the feeing that it was smash and grab. I thought defensively we controlled the game. They had almost zero chances.  To me classic smash and grab is desperate defending, half a dozen saves by the keeper, a few cleared off the line etc etc.

Just watched Rodgers post match interview and he said that they were competing on a budget? Can someone remind me how much they spent in the Summer?

It was like an ugly George Graham era arsenal win 1-0. Boring boring arsenal, except we didn't play the offside trap like they used to.

There's no question we defended like lions and snuffed out their goal threat, although they did come close once or twice. But there's no doubt they controlled the game. Ah, who gives a fuck, we won.

Was that even 5 minutes of highlights?
I can't think of a single thing that happened in the match that they should have shown but didn't.

Half of the match was Liverpool's centre-backs passing it back and forth - and that doesn't make great television.

Just Baker's sliding block near the end, I think that merited showing.
listened to the small faces baker song on you tube never heard it before- very good, but greatest ever?

They have a lot more going for them than Song of a Baker.

A net spend of £36m, according to the grauniad. So, a £110+m "budget" outlay is not enough to compete with the Aston Villas of this world. Nice feeling!

I thought Cleverley made a difference holding the middle together and had a very good debut. I hope that continues.
Have to say I was impressed with Brendan Rogers, didn't make any excuses, congratulated the Villa and did not get drawn into calling Senderos. Swiss Phil was pretty good, very effective in the air but he will be a marked man by refs if he tries his little tricks too often.
Thought Hutton was decent but slipped into his old habit of diving in. Cissokho was very good as was the rest of the team. I was again pleasantly surprised overall as I expected us to start very badly this season. We are not great yet, or even particularly good, but very encouraging and well done to the lads.

The squad looks suddenly a lot deeper that you almost forget Cole, Clark, Herd, Lowton etc who are not even making the bench!

Hutton rolled back the years with that reducer on Sterling. That was straight out of the 70's, flying squad, get yer trousers on you're nicked.

I think the strength of the team might now be defined by who we leave out. I don't miss those that are playing at Stoke and elsewhere and while the above are reasonable to come off the bench, none of them are likely starters except maybe for Grealish.

We can't really be laying into Hull players for their treatment of Grealish and then praising Hutton for doing the exact same thing on Sterling.

Great wasn't it. Hutton looked so innocent afterwards too. We were all laughing in the pub. One of the best things about the Villa winning and getting a bit more on track is the transformation it also effects on H and V. It's great to see everyone happy and having something to feel proud about. I'm even starting to get interested a bit more in football generally again.

It's what fans do, almost all of the time, and without realising it, me included

I think Huttons was late and rash more than anything. I think in the case of Grealish he was clearly targeted for intimidation as within 10 seconds of coming on Rosenior absolutely mullered him and was nowhere near the ball.
Of course Hull won't be the last to specifically target a player, and indeed we targeted Mario yesterday. It didn't work for Hull, it did work for us though.
You do need a bit of nastiness in this league sometimes though. Chelsea have won titles with it.

I think Hutton genuinely went for the ball. He just took everything in it's path too .
