It looked like we went to zonal marking in the second half, giving Hull a lot of possession and space. It was unnecessary and made it very likely we'd concede. I understand you can't go full pelt for ninety minutes but the last quarter of an hour says more about Villa's unfamiliarity with being comfortable winners than Hull City working us out.

That said, I can't find it in me to criticise too much. I very much enjoyed watching Villa today and if Mr Benteke had been an option today, we could have been three or four up in that first half.

We played some good stuff in the first half, and the defence were solid once again. As soccerhq posted though, they have not come up against genuine wide speed merchants yet. That will be tested soon enough.

I was a little concerned that PL did not respond to Bruce's half time adjustments, which tilted the game.

I think all of us would have settled for 7 points from the first 3 games.

Cautious optimism undented, particularly if we get Cleverley and one other.

Two or three points I'd like to make. We deserved the win. Agbonlahor had an excellent all round performance in the first half and Weimann took his goal very well. Second half we fell off the pace a bit. Jack Grealish (whether he wears shinpads or not) is going to get seriously hurt unless he pulls his socks up. Who does he think he is Steve Claridge!

A bloke three seats along from me watched about 20mins of the whole match in total. He was, head down, texting furiously for the other seventy!.

What is the point of going? I cant see any reason at all.

Happy with a home win at last, very good in the first half and did enough in the second half. Bent should have made it safe and I'm sure when he gets one his confidence will return.

Much better start to the season than many of us thought. Nerve wracking towards the end, but stating the obvious, we held on.

Just home from being 1 of that very low attendance figure. Villa do not look naive and hapless any more!

Bruce changed from 352 to 442 at the start of the 2nd half by subbing Pub Player for Rosenoir & Hull then contained Villa's passing better. Their hatchet job on Grealish was incredible, but at least it broke up the play & wound down the clock.

A horrible run of fixtures after the international break, but playing tight & passing well will give us a chance of scraping some points from those.

Decent first half.

Awful second.

Typical Villa.

Bolox, what was awful about the second half, were 2=0 up obviously the team loosing are going to up the anti and we responded, equally good second half from us, WE WON.

Equally good second half? Ok....   :o

WERE U AT THE GAME?

Cuz ur comment is not accurate at all , I would use the word awful if my team didn't show up for the second half but their goal was a well worked free kick, other than that they had I think 1 shot on target and kicked the shit out of Grealish.

oh yeah  :o to you

Awful 2nd half ? , really ? this is the Telegraph,s ( more realistic ,  IMO ) take on the proceedings :

" Hull were a shambles for much of the second half, frequently misplacing passes and testing the patience of Bruce in his technical area.

Tom Huddlestone, usually so influential, was hauled off with 19 minutes remaining and not long afterwards the visitors responded. Robbie Brady’s free kick created the first panic in the Villa defence and Nikica Jelavic’s header was helped along the line by Aly Cissokho.

Suddenly Villa’s back line appeared vulnerable as Hull turned the screw but Lambert's players did enough " .

I was very pleased with the first half. We pressed very well and that started up front with both Gabby and Andi working hard off the ball, as well as looking dangerous on it. Andi seemed to come in side and make more central runs that Hull just weren't picking up.

Senderos impressed again with the way he reads the game and the whole back four is very solid indeed.

Second half I thought the midfield sat too deep and they came onto us a little more. I wouldn't say we were hanging on, as Hull only seemed to have that one shot late on, while we wasted two good attempts to put it beyond doubt. But we saw it through, which is the point.

The treatment of the impressive Grealish was an utter disgrace. Bruce should be ashamed, that talentless pub players had to resort to hacking at the lad who has more ability in his left foot than that no mark Hull side has in their entire squad.

A very well deserved three points.

The player that impressed me today was Richardson - playing out of position he did well keeping attacking movements going and helped keep Hull defending rather than venturing into our half. Nothing spectacular but a good solid performance that was important to keep us on top in the first half.

I said this to my seat neighbour just before HT. They placed a man on Delph but forgot about Richardson and he was very effective.

Wonderful three points!
Brilliant first half - thought we stopped pressing quite so tightly second half and let them have the ball too easily - and we still keep giving it away/wasting possession from good positions.
Gabby's best game for a long time and some good touches from Weimann first half, at last!
Fully expected them to get a goal back but disappointed that Bent has had 3 very good chances in the last two games and is yet to hit the target!
Thought the treatment dealt out to Jack was straight from the Tamworth Sunday League, div 5. Clattenberg's a twat!
Am going to enjoy being 3rd before the next 5 fixtures kick in...
Might even have a pint this evening! ;-)

UTV!
