Very happy with the win and some decent performances. Most impressed with the approach first half - bags of energy and meant we created chances because we forced mistakes - most goals come from a turnover in possession when the ball is moved quickly.

The other thing for me - even before any other additions before the transfer window closes - if they are all fit then I can't see N'Zog, Bent or Cole in the matchday squad. Probably also true of Clark, Lowton and maybe Baker. UTV

N'zogbia and Cole are decent options on the bench, Bent is pretty poor nowadays. No wonder no one wants him with finishing like that.

Don't think Lowton has made the squad yet this season, you'd think he'll probably go on loan somewhere tomorrow.

Just got back in and like many have already said, we dropped off the pace alarmingly after a good first half performance.  He gets a lot of criticism (deserved at times), but I thought Gabby had a good game today and caused them all kinds of problems.  Sitting in the bottom tier of the North Stand, it was clear that Vlaar injured his calf and looked like he was really struggling with it.

All in all though, a good start to the season going into the international break.  I think home defeats in the last two games would have really been detrimental to everyone, so to get four points from them is a good return.  The new signings have so far been significant upgrades on the players they have replaced and hopefully a couple more will come in tomorrow.

Decent first half.

Awful second.

Typical Villa.

Bolox, what was awful about the second half, were 2=0 up obviously the team loosing are going to up the anti and we responded, equally good second half from us, WE WON.

Equally good second half? Ok....   :o

WERE U AT THE GAME?

Cuz ur comment is not accurate at all , I would use the word awful if my team didn't show up for the second half but their goal was a well worked free kick, other than that they had I think 1 shot on target and kicked the shit out of Grealish.

oh yeah  :o to you

Great first half. All over them like a rash.

More evenly-balanced second half.

Silly challenge by Sanchez to give away the free-kick that led to their goal. Bent seems to have forgotten what goals look like. Grealish is going to be something special and the way he was targetted today was out of order, but it disrupted their flow of play. Very pleased overall and we looked a lot livelier in front of goal.

How many CL qualifying rounds do you play if you finish third?

None.

Which is the same number if you finish any position other than 4th...

Great 1st half, even if Hull's defence was a bit generous.
2nd half was OK, Hull didn't really create anything of note for all their possession.
Good performances all round, the targeting of Grealish was shocking; obviously under instruction from Spud head.

It probably wasn't awful, but it wasn't great as we fell into some old bad habits and getting deeper and deeper and essentially inviting trouble. Against better sides it will be a problem if we cannot fix that. All in all a good result but it wasn't in any way perfect. The first half was very good indeed.

They may as well hand over the title to us now. Last 35 games are a formality.

Thought we played really well in the first half. Hull started to get going in the second half and had a lot of possession - I was in a minority of one who thought Lambert was right to bring Sanchez on to try and break up their play. Having said that I thought he was poor and gave away a stupid free kick which led to their goal. Bent really should have stuck that chance away near the end to make the last few minutes less stressful. Not sure why Hull seemed to have a contract out on Grealish - some of their challenges were straight out of the 70's, but the repeated fouls helped us out - more yellows for them, more possession for us

And as for the clowns in the North Stand who think it's hilarious to keep the ball - it isn't, and just adds to the extra time at the end. And given our record for conceding late it's not exactly the brightest thing to do

Oh - and really poor attendance. ST sales must be really down this season

Bruce made a lot if changes starting with taking Curtis Davies off at half time and seemed to want to flood their midfield, glad to see him take Huddlestone off,but Sanchez seemed to be off the pace a bit and they continued to have the lion's share of possesion, however Bent puts that chance away well made by Westwood and the scoreline would have been a better reflection on the game.Hull were poor .

Don't think Lowton has made the squad yet this season, you'd think he'll probably go on loan somewhere tomorrow.

With 7 spots on the bench, probably 3 strikers/attacking midfield players. If we start with Benteke, Kozak, plus either Gabby or Weimann, then the options from the bench are whichever of Gabby or Weimann doesn't start, Grealish and one other - maybe N'Zog or Cole but certainly not both and not Bent.

If a winger/wide attacker does come in then certainly none of the three will feature.

All that said, if the first choice options are Benteke and Kozak then I think we won't play 4-3-3, but will go 4-3-1-2. If Lambert favours energy over guile then the advanced/attacking mid could or would be Delph.

Good first half, sorry , but negative second half. A win is a win though in the Premier League and I am very pleased. I think the subs gave Hull the upper hand but had Bent scored, we were comfy.  Lambert is way too negative for me, but I can fully understand why he would be so desperate for the win. Fair play.

Good stuff. After the mental battering of the last few years it will always be that little bit tough to close games out at the moment, so falling back as Hull pressed forward to chase the game was pretty predicatable and understandable. Games between the 'bottom half teams' are very often like this, with a late equaliser or a breakaway third often on the menu.

Touch wood Vlaars calf isn't too bad, vital to keep Baker out of the team! Sorry for the cheapshot, but it's true!
