It's a bit of a pisser but in no way is it a humiliation.

FT: Villa U21 0-0 Middlesbrough U21. The claret and blues have picked up a well earned point in Burton after an evenly contested game. In a cagey affair with few opportunities, Craig Hill's double save at the end of the first half proved crucial. Gordon Cowans' young lions carved the better chances of the second period and could have stolen the three points at the end when 'Boro goalkeeper Connor Ripley saved well from Daniel O'Brien's low drive. Skipper Kevin Toner then headed over a corner kick in stoppage time. Villa return to league action on Monday January 5 2015 when they travel to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Just out of interest PWS and Legion, if a Premier league club losing to a League One club is not a humiliation what do you class as one?

It's the Youth Cup. If it was the first team i'd agree with you. But it isn't.

We certainly disagree then PWS ,i expect a club of our size to be able to beat a much smaller club like Chesterfield ,who correct me if i am wrong, have now beat our first team and youth team this season

Doesn't that kind of thing happen pretty regularly at youth level though?

I bet if you went back over the years we've lost a number of times to lower league teams in the Youth Cup. I'm not going to get worked up over a pre-season friendly or the Youth Cup. And I'm certainly not going to make out it's some kind of humiliation for the club.

I respect your opinion PWS , lets just say as a life long supporter of the club i expect higher standards of my club than what is going on at our club at present

Of course it does, but it's only a humiliation when it's Villa. We had two teams out tonight, which is bound to have impacted on them both.

We only had 4 subs for the U21 game.

The fact that we could'nt even name a full quota of subs for the U21 match just goes to show in my opinion how bad the club is being run. Was expecting the excuse that we had two teams out on the same night .Grasping at straws or what ? If we did'nt have something like 12 players out on loan, making up a full subs bench would be no problem

And you feel that sitting on the bench in a Youth Cup tie is a better way to get used to a career in football than playing for a lower-league first team do you?

No i think instead of sending out on loan over more than a team of reserve team players and having to fill it with youth team players who if you ever watched a reserve or youth game (which i doubt) you would see are not ready for a higher grade of football at the moment.

As for your question , i think the way we use to mix a few promising youngsters in with a few experienced pros in the Mcdonald days and produduced the likes of Cahill,Davies,Ridgewell,Gardner and Whittingham to name just a few is far better than what the club is doing now.

A question for you, do you think getting beat 12 -2 at Chelsea, 6-0 at West Brom like the youths have this season and being knocked out in the big one in youth football to a League one side is good for our young players?  Last season i was at Villa park to see us scrape home 4-3 against Plymouth and anyone who was there will tell you we were praying for the final whistle, while the season before i believe we were knocked out in the first round at Peterborough 4-0 .
