Villa have been handed an away tie against Wolves in the U21 Premier League Cup.

The round of 32 draw has thrown up an all-West Midlands affair between Gordon Cowans' side and their rivals from the Black Country.

A date and time is yet to be confirmed for the clash.

The young claret and blues side have entered the competition at the last 32 stage alongside other clubs with Category One academy status.

To be fair Dave not many of our loan players come back and have much impact. Most are sold off.

That's true, but they've still had done well at this level and the ones who have good loan periods tend to be those who do better in the long run. Lambert has said that in the past we've spent too much time concentrating on winning the reserve leagues and not enough on bringing players through. For all his faults at least he's trying to do this right; ultimately, wherever we finish in whatever the Central League is called now isn't anywhere near as important as getting even one extra player into the first team.

Yes but surely Newcastle and all the others do exactly the same by loaning out players so the standard of opposition should be fairly equal.

Villa will travel to either AFC Fylde or Chesterfield in the third round of the FA Youth Cup.
