The ref has an aerosol line marker...and we've won!

Solid result 2-0. We played some really nice stuff, pretty much all on the deck. Lots of passing and movement, possession has clearly been stressed in training. Very impressed with Okore again, Zog, Senderos and Delph. Enthusiasm naturally tempered given the opposition, but we look very assured indeed 2 games into pre-season.

Considering they are well into their season and this was only our second pre-season game, especially with us playing the 2 different outfield teams, that wasn't too bad. 4am, might be bed time.

Good win. Second half was a bit like last season in places. We got decent possession in their half but inevitably funnelled the ball backwards. First half with Grealish and Gardner we looked far more creative but at the same time lacked a bit of presence.

Nice free kick from NZog but he did little else.

Good to see Lerner showing his face at a Villa game.

Usual crap.

That's the spirit.

It brings some balance to Toronto's prozac fed mumblings. ;)

Good to see Lerner showing his face at a Villa game.

Even better to see was the legs on his bird. Highlight of the night.

And Randy Lerner's there as well.

Is that Randy's new 'bird?'
Looks like she has a massive tattoo on her leg?
I wonder if randy made her get a villa lion done to match his?

A few positives to take from that,
Jack Grealish looked very good. The way Bent and Weiman combined for the first goal.
Richardson looks as if he might be a bit of a handful. The Zog is back but looked ring rusty.
Senderos looks as if he's a good acquisition. We tried to keep the ball on the ground.
We still give the ball away needlessly at times and we still seem to go into headless chicken mode when defending deep.
All in all not bad at all.
And so to bed.

I was expecting the mob around my house at around 2am. What happened?! Disappointed

Just watched the game on YouTube (it's still there). Can never read too much into these games and we didn't really play a side that would play in the league. Though interesting that we're not obviously trying to blood a 352 formation

First half

I thought grealish did great for half an hour. Though I don't think he beat his man once and did start to get crowded out. So encouraging, but perhaps not ready yet

Having said that Weimann and bent did sweet fanny Adams apart from the goal which the keeper should have done better on

I'm conscious that I've a heavy bias against Chris herd but his distribution and blind alley running was pretty hopeless I thought. Bacuna also looks out of place in central midfield. Gardner was ok

I thought enda Stevens did quite well though Hutton was poor

Second half

Good n'zogbia free kick though again it went straight where the keeper should have been. Pretty fast though!

I thought for about 15 mins you could really tell it was a more first choice midfield as we pressed  it and passed it well

I'd like to think that the sloppiness, bad passing, blind n'zogbia alleys, lack of hold up play up front, weak distribution from the back were all symptoms of pre season. It's just that none of that was new!

Overall, in a game where there wasn't too much pressure on the ball the ease with which we gave it away is still a big concern

So you got up at 5 o'clock to watch it? You need to have a word with yourself.
