I watched the England women's match too. I reckon I catch one of their games on the telly every couple of years, and once again the thing that strikes me is how patronising the coverage is. It's all so apologetic and conditional. There was a moment in the first half where an England player had an extraordinarily feeble shot at goal, one of those scuffed and trundling efforts so lacking in venom that it could have come from the boot of a sick Charles Hawtrey, a strike so weak the goalie could not only have thrown her hat on it but nipped home to get her hat to make that possible. It was a waste of a great chance, as anyone who has ever watched any football could see. Not according to that shrieking guffmonger Jonathan Pearce, who tried to tell me it was a "fine effort" that had "made the keeper work". It's always bothered me this, it's like the commentators are scared to criticise in case they're seen as being sexist, which is just idiotic. A striker shanking a one-on-one out for a throw-in is a shite finish in any game, regardless of their genitals.
My acca is f***ed.
Why is Wilshere playing
