'If there's one year we could have done with an embarrassing early cup exit to lower league opposition this was it' said no Villa fan ever.

A case could be made for it being better overall if Villa had been drawn against Man Utd in the third round and gone out at that point.

Please try. This I've got to see.

I'll have a go - if we're not going to win it then it doesn't really matter in which round we get knocked out.

Personally, I'd much rather lose in a semi-final or final than in the first round of a competition because of the fun you have winning along the way. But somebody else might say that the annoyance and pain is less in an earlier defeat because the hope and expectation isn't there.

He's not saying that he would rather lose in the third round rather than the semi-final (and nor am I), but it's not impossible to see why somebody might.

Wot Dave said.... that's Dave Dave not our leader Dave.

Villa still have to beat Liverpool and then (in all likelihood) Arsenal to win the Cup. The chances of this happening are not great.

I'm not saying that I'd prefer have have been knocked out, I'm saying that I can understand why, due to the more important relegation battle, some people might have preferred a no-fuss third round exit to a top six club.

Then we may as well not have  bothered with most of our league games. We were going to lose them anyway.
I wouldn't mind us skipping the indignity of playing Utd most seasons. We'll let them have the 6 points under the proviso that the GD is only -2.

I'd rather have this season's results than that prognosis. ;-)

Since not playing United would mean not playing in the same league, I'll settle for playing them every year. We beat them when we were good enough to finish amongst the European places so we just need to develop and get back there.

Well that was certainly a better point for Derby than Brentford. Bent has done enough to show that he can still do a decent job at least at that level.  Can't see the Rams going up though, even if they hold on to the play-offs they are just too flat and really out of form.  I still wouldn't touch the Newcastle job for all the money in the world if I was Macalan of course.

Give them their due, they are doing their best to gatecrash the relegation party.

They were planning on staying at home and having an early night but not only are they at the party, they are in the kitchen and heading for the booze.

My bets on the top three divisions were a disaster but in League Two Plymouth, Shrewsbury, Southend, Wycombe and York did the business for me. All odds on favs though so it only paid out just over 5/1. But owts better than nowt.

Albion arrived at the party thinking they were John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. Instead they may find themselves at the end of the party copping off with the fat ugly bird while the only thing left to drink is half a bottle of Lambrini.

They thought they were Don Draper but they turned out to be Pete Campbell.

If the Tesco's go down, I think we'd be able to take full credit. Beating them twice on the spin ruined their good start under Pulis and they've struggled to recover since. I think they'll scrape over the line sadly.

Ha!

Their run in is the stuff of nightmares. I doubt if we'll be hearing that "We know what we are" ditty much from now till the end of the season.
