I've got no problem with the idea that Liverpool will be harder to beat that Blackburn. I do have a problem with people suggesting it's impossible.

I am also pretty gobsmacked by the number of people across the Internet since last night that seem to be suggesting that we shouldn't be in this cup because we are risking our premiership status (not just in this forum) I am not sure at which point they would have been happy for us to throw it? Blackpool? Bournemouth? Albion? What would those same people have been saying if we had lost any of those games?

'If there's one year we could have done with an embarrassing early cup exit to lower league opposition this was it' said no Villa fan ever.

'I think it would have been better if we'd just let Albion have that one' said no Villa fan ever

If we come out of Wembley next week with a final in our sights, then there won't be many whose immediate reaction will be 'Well that's us down then' - although I am starting to wonder about that one.

If we lose to Liverpool, of course the words 'concentrate on the league' are ready and waiting, but I can feel how hollow they sound from here.

Dundee beat Dundee United and spoilt my 10/1 acca. Apparently they hadn't won a derby since about 1726.

Well yes, precisely as pooligan says.

There is no mystery about this. We have a more expensive team than Blackburn and so our chances of beating them are better than our chances of beating Liverpool who have a more expensive team than us.

If Blackburn had defied the odds and beaten Liverpool then they don't miraculously become a more expensive team, we would still have had a better chance of beating them than Liverpool.

It seems pretty straightforward. Our odds of reaching the final just went down (I assume the bookies have reflected this). That doesn't mean they are zero, that doesn't mean I don't want us to get there, it is just less likely and thats a shame, thats all.

I think we have a very good chance of progressing towards the final. When Blackburn lost Gestede for most of the match their chances were based on hard work and nothing else. I expected a poor Liverpool side to win without too much effort. Sterling put in the effort but what surprised me was Sturridge. He was dreadful. We need a big performance from several of our squad and we could do it.

I think Wigan won at Wembley against Man City,
and some other shit team upset the odds against Arsenal in an event that ushered in the dawn of the apocalypse

Do you think they'll let me in Wembley with my 'Gerrard is a C*nt' banner?

Would it be preferable to play an easy team in a semi-final like Bradford?

My old man always used to quote the tired old cliche: you've got to beat them all to win it.  He wasn't the first to say it and he won't be the last.  The sure thing is though, he's right.

Steven Gerard can suck my big hairy one!

'If there's one year we could have done with an embarrassing early cup exit to lower league opposition this was it' said no Villa fan ever.

A case could be made for it being better overall if Villa had been drawn against Man Utd in the third round and gone out at that point.

However, given the draws that Villa actually did get; there's no point at which it can be said that it would have been better to lose.

- Lower League
- Lower League
- Relegation rival who we didn't want to give a confidence boost
- Local rival

Simply make a banner saying "Gerrard is a Gent", and once inside simply add stickers over the "G" and "e".
