Sunderland are a bit of mess at the moment and Poyet is losing a grip. So we've got to win that. Win it, leapfrog them and kick some dirt in their eyes as we pass them. That could really damage them and help us.

I didn't realise we're only 3 points behind Everton. I don't think they'll go down though. They've got the quality to come through, but given the signings they made and squad they have, there's an argument that they're have probably the worst season of anyone this season. I mean we're bad but we've not got a good squad. Martinez will be lucky not to get the bullet in the summer. He's woefully underachieved.

Yeah I still think Sunderland could be the suprise team to go down this season.  Their just in bad form are low on confiderence, and manager just seems to be losing it.  Also I just don't think their squad is that good.  It would take someone else to go a good run and for them to totally implode, but stranger things have happened.

Sunderland also have lost arguably their best player of the season at least for now, and maybe for the rest of the season.

A win up at Sunderland and all of a sudden they're looking down the barrel

Those jammy Marc bustards! ::)  If it wasn't such a poor standard this season they would be nowhere near 4th.  Newcastle handed them those points.

The whole Johnson thing will certainly have a negative effect on them too. It just leaves about of a cloud. When you see a club in a state like that you've got to take advantage, kick them while they're down.

If we approach the game like we did last night and just really press them and get the ball forward quickly, attack with pace, I think we'll beat them. We just need to keep Defoe well guarded.

Would that be a surprise? It would be about as surprising as us going down. And that still wouldn't be much of a surprise.

I just meant in the sense that for awhile the smart money has looked to be on the current bottom three or us to go down. Sunderland looked like a team who had just enough to be safe.  Also I do think Poyet is a decent manager.

If the bottom 3 carry on with the same points to games ratio as they have now then the max they would get to is 31 points (QPR). If they improve about 20% and get a point a game that would be 33 points. I reckon 3 more wins would be enough but it would be nice to get 2 of them this month.

Good point, well made. Hmmm.

throw in the Europa League too which is consuming a lot of their energy. Things aren't looking good for Pep Martinez

It will be interesting to see how Everton got on tonight. On MOTD now.

Awful defending; no pressure on the cross and none existent marking. The second goal was poor too. They're  so soft and disorganised at the back.

Awful defending and they can't score, sounds familiar.

I have generally felt for a while QPR, Burnley and Leicester would drop. Ourselves, Hull and Sunderland will be sweating until near the death I think. Everton seem to have sleep walked into trouble and that tends to be dangerous if you don't wake up in time. This season could be defining for the careers of 'bright young things' Martinez and Poyet. Two managers whose reputations have not always been fully backed by their results. In our favour is the fact QPR have a rookie temporary manager. Add to that the facts that Leicester, Sunderland and Everton fans are rebelling against their managers. Hull and Burnley seem to be handling things in the calm manner of teams who are where they suspected they would be but Burnley in particular are short on quality.

I think Everton are actually 'too good to go down', but at the same time are bad enough to gift points to the teams around us.
