It wasn’t the law when Alex Song’s goal for West Ham was disallowed against Arsenal in December. I think that Rooney put the goalkeeper off with his movement.
The ball didn't touch Rooney so it's not offside according to the commentators. I don't know what constitutes interfering with play though.
Would be good for Preston to hold on for a draw at least give LVG an extra game to moarn about

The fact that he took a step back to avoid making contact with it and blocking the keeper's view makes the rule completely stupid!
