Are we talking about the one time he saw them and the following week he went to Wigan to watch a tedious. 0-0? You've got a good memory.

Is it you that goes on about a Scottish team quite a lot on here or am I confusing you with somebody else?

I go on about a rubbish Scottish team quite a lot. The clue to which one is in my username, and I take an interest due to my ancestry. Not one I've chosen to take an interest in because they win every week.

Barcelona are 5-0 up at half time in the second leg of the Copa del Rey. 9-0 on aggregate, they haven't got Messi tonight but think they'll scrape through.

Wonderful achievement by the Socialist club that refuse to consider sharing television revenue with the rest of their league to see off a lower division club.

...which makes Barcelona different to any other club in the world how?

Well, they're massively different to every club in the Premier League, for starters, where the money is shared much, much more equitably than it is in Spain.

Barcelona and Real Madrid's carving up of the telly cash there makes the Premier League look like some form of footballing collective farm.

That isn't the point. How big a share of the TV revenue do they get? ;)

And the way the changing of PL prize money distribution each season, together with the number of times certain clubs are on TV compared to other clubs even though the match is a "non event", means that the money in this country is going in greater amounts to less and less clubs, till we eventually end up in virtually a similar situation as in Spain.

Anyway, and this isn't a criticism of Barcelona, why have a domestic cup competition over two legs? Just makes it boring.

Not really.

The minimum figure that a club can earn by being in the Premier League this season from TV rights is £63.7m. The most is £86.5m. The main difference between those figures is prize money (£1.2m per place)

Being shown live more often will have an impact, but it's £750,000 for every game, but it's only after you've been shown ten times that it starts to make any difference from the minimum level.

Compared to Spain, Real Madrid and Barcelona take £140m each, the likes of Elche and Almeria take about £12m each.

The Premier League gets a lot of things wrong, but the equality of its distribution of wealth between clubs isn't one of them.

But each time the prize money shareout is calculated the difference between each place becomes greater making the distribution less equal. I was also referring to the TV money from the cups. How many times are certain clubs shown when their match is a non event? Also I believe that in the not too distant future the overseas owners of certain clubs will be looking at how the TV money is distributed and push for changing it to each club making their own deal. And if that happens with the wonderful attacking adventurous football that Villa have produced over the last few seasons, then the TV people will be clam outing at our door......not!

The difference between each place becomes bigger because there is more money in the pot to share. If the collective prize money is £20m then there won't be much difference between 10th place and 11th place. If the collective prize money is £200m then the difference between each place will be much bigger. And yes, some clubs will get more money for being on TV more often, but all clubs are guaranteed the equivalent value of being shown live ten times. With the money we're talking about, one club getting £7.5m and one getting £10.5m isn't really huge (the difference between being shown live four times more).

I'd also dispute how many matches are 'non-events'. I can't imagine that at any point in the season there are that many matches where nothing is riding on it for at least one of the teams. If they're showing 11th against 12th in April, then perhaps - but that doesn't really back up the point that the teams at the top of the league are trying to take all the money away does it?

Also I believe that in the not too distant future the overseas owners of certain clubs will be looking at how the TV money is distributed and push for changing it to each club making their own deal.

I expect you're right, that the likes of Liverpool, ManYoo  and Arsenal would be very keen to do that - but I think I'm correct in saying that any changes like that need to be agreed to by 14 of the 20 clubs. And although they were silly to all vote for FFP regulation, I can't see 14 clubs waving goodbye to all that money that the collective deal gives them.
