Doesn't VCTM hail from that end?

People and the London media in particular get carried away with Wilshere but I think the opposite is true too that he gets more criticism than is warranted. I thought he played well tonight and the midfield rotation worked well (against a lowly ranked team). He's someone has a lot of potential but hasn't fulfilled it so far - not surprising with the injuries he's had.

The 2 balance each other out, it's hard to watch him be average whilst listening to a commentator compare him to Pirlo, Xavi, etc without finding yourself picking up on the bad parts of his game and highlighting them.

So Andy Townsend reckons Wilshire was England's best player tonight. He said that just after the player himself, was too knackered to receive a simple pass and clumsily pulled the shirt of the opponent to get himself booked. I have to respectfully disagree with the cliche spouting, ex-Villa man.

Looks like he needs to stop smoking

Regardless of the respective quality of opposition, which is debatable, it is unarguable that teams play loads more matches nowadays.

Greaves' 44 goals in 57 games is more impressive than Rooney's 43 in 99.

Jimmy Greaves is the greatest living English forward. Rooney is a very good player but without the adulation that Greavsie had and still has.

I'd probably go for Lineker given his record in international tournaments.

I'd agree. 10 goals in World Cup finals. Not many of other players of any nations have managed more.

Charlton maybe? He scored his goals from midfield. Then again, he is a massive wanker.

Did anyone else notice the "AVFC Wirrall" flag at the England game last night?

Woolly-back Villans?

Perhaps they were won over by the semi-final in 94?

Doubtful though, I went to uni with a Tranmere fan who was and still is very bitter about the Bosnich incident.

Probably feel the same if I was one of them. They have utterly crap nicknames by the way.

That said Aldridge dragged the ball way wide of the goal and may not have got to it (IMO) had he not left his leg in to be dragged down by Bozzie. How he wasn't booked as  a minimum does baffles me

Grudglingly you would have to say one of the top 3 or 4 English players of all time.

Charlton started off as a forward before dropping into midfield. He's also a massive wanker. Lineker wouldn't have got into double figures had fate not intervened.

I assume he meant had Gary Shaw not got injured, Lineker wouldn't have been first choice for England.
