Depends if you take into account that both counties have populations of around 750K and the only other teams in those counties are Chesterfield, Notts Co and Mansfield. And they have averages of about 6K, 5K and 3K.

Do Notts County really only average 5k? Genuine question, I had no idea. It's sad to see such an old club reduced to that.

Derby averaged less than 25K last season, Forest less than 23K. Not crap but nothing special either.

Derby is a city with c250k people and a sparsely populated county. Nottingham has 2 clubs and is a little over 400k. So I think Derby attendance is very impressive considering. Forest pretty good for a team who has not been in top division for a decade and a half.

I suspect our average attendance would be low 30's in the event of relegation. Still twice as much as Small Heath but proportionally not as good as East Mids neighbours

I've always had Derby down as the next biggest club in the midlands behind us. It's a proper football town.

I tend to think of Derby, Forest, Wolves and West Brom all being roughly equal second biggest in the region, with Stoke, Leicester, Coventry and Blose the next level down.

Last couple of years it's been about 5,500. They had a few years before that of approx 7K but the majority of time over the last 15 years or so it is around the 5K mark.

weren't Notts County going to be the biggest club on the planet at one point and had these delusions of grandeur including the hiring of a recent former England manager/mercenary?

Talking of old clubs, didn't Port Vale once have serious plans to increase their ground to a 70k a capacity or something?

Have they finished that stand on the side yet at Port Vale?

Its quite a big ground from memory, at least 20,000.

I think Vale Park had a capacity of 50k back in the 60's. I think they might even have hit that for a game versus us in the FA Cup.

We're their record attendance at just shy of 50,000 for a 5th round tie in 1960.

Am going to see Brighton tonight in Capital One Cup against Chelteham Town.  Tickets are just twelve pounds which is good as a lot of the league games are the best part of 30! :'(

I don't see them repeating the Play-offs this year, but should still be at least mid-table so a decent run in the cup would be nice.  Of course a plum tie might await next round if get through tonight.

Yeah, they lost player of the season Upson and Ulloa (or something like that, big South American striker) to Leicester, so might struggle to make the play-offs.

He ended up waiving his right to get any money off them so I think "mercenary" is unfair.

Yep, there were plans to make Vale Park the Wembley of the north... some of the facilities were built, even a massive tunnel on the half way line, but circumstances meant that it never got much further than that.
