It's a proud moment in our recent history, hoping Jake Livermore is suspended for Hull City.

We can't hope to match a team with the quality of Livermore, Huddlestone, and thingy. The other one.

I won't be celebrating 'survival' though.

Why not? We are where we are through a combination of factors, most of which we have absolutely no control over, if you can't enjoy the few ups that we get in a time of mostly downs then frankly I'd find something better to do with your time before your leisure pursuit of choice does your head in once and for all!

If we are safe by 5pm tomorrow I'm going to party like it's 2013.

Quite. But my point remains that 'celebrating' survival for me is just shit. It should be the minimum requirement, it's not an achievement.

I know what you mean, but after staring it in the face for four years you take out of it whatever you can.

I've felt sick and nervous for over week. If we win on Saturday, we are safe and I won't feel sick any more, there's a good chance we will get a new rich owner in and things may well be a lot better next season. To me that's a good enough reason to relax, unwind have a few pints and draw a line under a mostly shit season.

Quite. I just don't want to have to worry about it anymore. I need a break.

Much as we all dislike Mr Potato Head he is not stupid. Given that in all of our recent defeats our opponents have followed the now proven tactic of "let Villa have the ball cos they're shot and will fuck it up" can Lambert find a cure. More width, more hunger, less shut defending it's down to him.

I would go for insist on change. Nothing can convince me that the players who have failed to deliver week in week out will change their spots now. Inexperience is a risk but the status quo could see us down.

Gabby Agbonlahor: It could be the biggest game of all of our careers

Aston Villa: Gabby Agbonlahor says Villa stars will not hide for the 'biggest game of their careers'

Apr 30, 2014 16:03
By Mat Kendrick

Gabby Agbonlahor insists the Aston Villa players won’t hide in potentially “the biggest game of all of our careers” at home to Hull this weekend.

Villa need three points to finally seal safety for themselves and Agbonlahor reckons the team will stand up to the challenge in Saturday’s high pressure survival clash at Villa Park .

Agbonlahor, the club’s current longest serving player, admits the inconsistency of Paul Lambert’s strugglers has put them in trouble near the Premier League dropzone.

“We’re not going to hide away from it,” said Agbonlahor.

“Every player in the squad knows that it is a massive game.

“There is a lot of pressure on the game but we have got experienced players in there and hopefully everyone will rise to the occasion and get the result.

“It could be the biggest game of all of our careers so far because of what is at stake.

“To keep a club the size of Aston Villa in the Premier League is a massive thing.

“We know we’ve been up and down and inconsistent as a team but at this stage of the season you’ve just got to try and get the points on the board. Form goes out of the window now.”

Agbonlahor expects Steve Bruce’s Tigers to be up for Saturday’s game, despite being clear of trouble themselves and with the distraction of an FA Cup final to prepare for.

“We can’t afford to think that because of the FA Cup they will be a less strong side,” he added.

“They are going to want to beat us when they come to Villa Park. We’ve got to treat it like a cup game and give 100 per cent.

“They are a hardworking team. Steve Bruce has got them playing good football and they are getting results at the right time.

“All the teams down at the bottom now are trying to get good results rather than focus on playing well.”

7 wins and a draw in our last 8 meetings with Hull.

Given Lambert's knack of ending good records and creating lots of unwanted ones, a defeat would seem quite likely.

Treat it like a cup game, Gabby? Makes sense...we must have treated the Sheff Utd and Bradford ties as league matches.
