Aston Villa vs Hull City Pre-Match Thread
« on: April 28, 2014, 11:44:46 AM »
Saturday 3rd May, 15:00 KO.

Last home game of the season and tickets are selling very well, this is very much 'Survival Saturday'.

I'm personally feeling very optimistic and hoping the Holte is going to rock and drag this team over the line.

3-1 Villa
Weimann, Gabby, and Delph for us. Shane Long for them.

Draw for me. But Fulham will also draw at Stoke, so we'll be fine. There's no way we're getting out of this on our own initiative.

A draw or a narrow win; either of which will be overkill.

Whatever happens I hope the club don't put up the latest scores from the other games on the scoreboards. It makes me even more stressed.

I want an end to three up top whatever formation we're planning. It only works when the big man CB is playing, and even then not often

                   Guzan
      Lowton Vlaar Clark Bertrand
Bacuna Westwood Delph Albrighton
                  Weimann
                    Gabby

And i'm well aware how horrifically lightweight and poor that looks. Neither Gabby or Andi warrant a start but the options aren't there. Holt just destroys any movement/football. And would be like a beacon screaming HOOF IT TO MY HEAD. Robinson i'd have on the bench for sure. I want Gabby in the middle, i want Andi in the middle just behind and I want width from Marc and Leandro.

Normally I'd agree with you SLB, and Bacuna and Albrighton wide is a decent option, but I think this is the only game I'd ever play Grant Holt in. The tension is really unbearable and the jeopardy is very great. We need a guy up front who can hold onto the ball without panicking, who can get onto crosses (what's the point in playing the way we have been, with Albrighton so prominent, if there's nobody to cross to?), and who knows how to work centre backs and be a nuisance. He's also good for set-pieces at both ends, and games like this often come down to a bobble from a corner and who gets there first.

We can't really pass it because the coaching's inadequate, and we're going to hoof it anyway. We might as well have someone to hoof it to.

0-2 Loss

Long
Jelavić

I just can't see us scoring or creating anything.

3-0 Hull - cant see us scoring again this season we are so impotent!
Shane Long will score at least 2 and give us the runaround like he always does.
With M City and Spurs to come our goal difference will take a battering.
If we stay up it will be because of other results not our own efforts

That's a good point actually. Got a feeling they will though.

I really hope Weimann doesn't start. I've had enough of him failing to control a ball for one season.

I hate the tension as much as the next guy but I hope they do as I really, really need to know. Everyone will be checking on their phones and spreading the word anyway.

I know why they do it but the thing with that is  I've noticed they don't put all the scores up, only the ones that are going well for us.  For example they didn't flash Swansea's goals at Newcastle, so you then start wondering if results are going against us, check your phone and the atmosphere dies anyway.  I'd rather they didn't put any up, the crowd always know what's going on elsewhere. Bloody hell we knew at Highbury in 81 and that was before God's dog had an iPhone.

4-4-2

Holt and Helenius up top to rough up Davis and Chester, neither of whom are very big. Albrighton and Bacuna down the sides. Lowton in as he can also cross a ball well and get Delph/ Kea running into the box too.

Won't happen, but it is how I would play it.

Lambert's Villa will lose. 3-1 with the final goal being a last 5 minute break away.

Long to get 2.

Baker to start and look like a shambles at centre half. Shave the beard son, only the great Swede was worthy of it, you are not my friend. No way.
