At the risk of over-complicating things, maybe wear short sleeves if it's warm and long sleeves if it's cold?

Don't be ridiculous!

No. Some stripes are stripier than others. Put it this way, if Newcastle brought out a shirt with those sort of stripes on, there would be uproar. Because it's not a proper stripe. Therefore it is fine for our purposes.

Thick or thin it's still a stripe.

This one's not too bad.

The long or short sleeve thing.

It depends what kind of player we're talking about. A creative midfielder along the lines of Sid, for example, should always wear long sleeves. That's because players like that need to have a bit of what I believe the kids call (or called a few years ago) "swagger" about them, and you can't really do that in short sleeves, they need to cover as much of their bony, talented frames as possible, which means long sleeves every time.

Centre halves need to be in short sleeves, partly from a "roll your sleeves up and get stuck in" kind of thing.

re wingers, the point about creative midfielders - "number 10s" as Paul Lambert calls them - also applies to wide players. Think of that Tony Morley goal at Everton in the 80-1 season. Imagine him in short sleeves for that. It just doesn't seem right, does it?

Your traditional big man up front, your Peter Withe absolutely must have short sleeves (in his case for easy access to sweat bands), never long ones. That's because big strikers need to appear to be rugged and hard to handle. You can't do that in long sleeves.

A perfect summation. Should be included in the laws of the game.

We tend to reach a cup final when we have stripes. It's definitely our year!

That's not a home kit.

If they brought that out as a home kit I'd be pretty unhappy. The stripes we have on the new one though are thin enough that you won't even notice them at the ground, so okay by me. So long as it doesn't sell too well and give the club an idea to produce a stripier one next year.

I quite like it.

But on the adults wearing it topic, just like pro cycling kit, team kit is for the team.

Happy they have stuck with the basic template, but the colours are still wrong for me - the claret is may be about right, or nearly right, better than previous Macron efforts but the blue on the sleeves is still all wrong.  They seem to be able to get it right on the socks but not the sleeves.  Roll on a change of supplier.

Why are the stripes white and not blue?

Don't you like the Macron claret? On the contrary, assuming that the right shade of claret is the one of the 70's and early 80's shirts, I think that the shade of claret of  last season kit was perfect.

Nike made only one right claret, the one of the kit with the black socks. The other efforts were dark red, not claret.

Obviously we must agree on the idea of claret, which is not easy.
Being claret the name of a wine used in the South of France, I think that claret is the colour of the wine, a mix between red and purple, the colour that, much significantly, in the rest of Europe is called bordeaux (a more famous french wine), a shade that for its content of purple is different from dark red and maroon (that is a mix between red and brown).

Agreed. I'd also add that deep-lying Pirlo types should have long-sleeves going forward, but should roll them up when it's time to get stuck in and defend.

Always bothered me that Stanley Victor And Dwight liked a sleeve. Dwight yes, Stan no. It's a look thing. Can I add no keeper should have short sleeves? Wrong on all levels.

Yes, keeper in short sleeves puts me in mind of that Mexican joker with the frankly offensive shirts.
