I quite like "Premiership" purely because it is a thumb in the eye to the sponsors. "You may call it the Barclays Premier League but despite all that money it hasn't registered with us so we call it what it used to be called" type of thing.

Hmm, honourable intentions Pat but it doesn't really work. It's only ever been the Carling Premiership, Barclaycard Premiership and Barclays Premiership, so not really doing down the sponsors.

The only times that it's been without sponsor were the first season (FA Premier League) and next season / potentially beyond (Premier League)

Anybody who wants to call it the First Division is fine in my book. Just not the f*cking Premiership.

Funnily enough Dave I was stopped half an hour ago by somebody doing market research on beer of all things. After a few questions re brand recognition I was asked about that shite Coors advert with JC Van Damme and told her I thought it was for Miller Lite, just to skew the stats negatively for them. I know my lone voice wont ruin their brand but every little helps.

If this was any other area of 'public service' he'd be sacked... teacher, police officer, social worker. Politicians live by different rules, but only because we let them.

It's also a class thing, if a police officer drinks on duty he gets sacked, yet barristers go to the pub at lunchtime, come back reeking of beer and conduct serious and sensitive trials, including cross examinations of rape victims, murder suspects etc after a few pints.
