Unless your're UK or one of the Commonwealth countries, you're probably taught American English these days, especially as a second language. I'm pretty sure from some of the his/her other posts, TB has previously alluded to English being a second language.

This is all a bit strange... I read the original reference to fried chicken as simply part of the list of vacuous bullshit markeeeebeeee2005 was imagining the scum we have as players to be saying, in his funny but sadly probably quite realistic dressing room scene. That's despite me being aware of the possible racist connotations of fried chicken (and, for that matter, water melons).
I'm frankly astonished that Paul_e could be asking him to be "a little contrite" about it. He's said he didn't know that fried chicken could be perceived as racist and that he'll be careful not to use it in a similar context again. What more can he do?

nothing, and he doesn't need to.  I'd gone quiet on it for about 4 pages because I'd accepted it until people started accusing me of going out of my way to be offended, at that point I read it back and felt like I was being made out as the bad guy.  I'll admit I might have been a little heavy handed but I merely wanted a recognition that the comment could be taken badly which is all I meant by a little contrite and I wanted it to be clear so people would stop making it out as me being at fault.  As I've said 2-3 times I never called him racist or accused him of intending to be offensive (although 1 of my posts may read as if I was saying that, and for that one I apologise for any misunderstanding), I've explained why it 'triggered' for me and I read it as I did, I can fully accept that others won't see it that way and that it wasn't intended that way but if I can see that way then others can (and have).

On top of that, I've already told a mod I'd leave it so please don't name drop me again and bring me back into it.

A Streatham pub I go to is nicknamed The Jolly Racist. By about 4 of us. We are very funny chaps.

Which pub im generally a Ferrers, Pratts or Pied drinker (I've shortened the names for fear of them being named Nazi establishments). Although i go out in Crystal Palace more and more.

Additonally if you work in IT the 2 become fully interchangeable even for a British speaker because pretty much any coding will be the american version, I personally don't even notice the difference anymore (but oddly I still put the u in when typing on sites like this and leave it out when I'm typing at work).

I don't know much about that sort of thing but my understanding is that with a deal of this size it's the only way the offer would've been finalised (you'd have an initial offer and then due dilligence and proof of funds before the offer became finalised and went for ratification with the league) so it sounds right.

I'm not quite sure if that's a very forthright assertion that that's how they're spelled in American English, or an attempt at humour (that one's also without the u in US English) to imply that Americans can't spell.

OT now: but yes, English is a second language for me. Male, not female btw. And I've been berating myself over mindlessly accepting Chrome's spelling checker's suggestion (set to UK English, by the way!) over my preferred spelling ever since peter w replied. It's late, and I was just about to hit the sack.

But as it would appear that the spelling was his only quarrel with my post, I'll happily accept being accused of using Americanisms this time around.

There is no such thing as American English. There is the Queen's English, and there are spelling mistakes.
