I think I had a sheltered upbringing as a child. I was brought up as a God fearing bible believing Pentecostal and I was still extremely naive by the time I got to Uni. I distinctly remember when I was at school a boy in our class got told off for swearing and I went home and asked Mom if she'd teach me how to swear because I had no idea what it even was.

My Dad was a Pentecostal Pastor (AOG)

We were Elim, so AoG were the enemy (sort of.)

Ha ha, yes we always thought you were quieter and a bit more up market

I quite like "Premiership" purely because it is a thumb in the eye to the sponsors. "You may call it the Barclays Premier League but despite all that money it hasn't registered with us so we call it what it used to be called" type of thing.

Hmm, honourable intentions Pat but it doesn't really work. It's only ever been the Carling Premiership, Barclaycard Premiership and Barclays Premiership, so not really doing down the sponsors.

The only times that it's been without sponsor were the first season (FA Premier League) and next season / potentially beyond (Premier League)

Anybody who wants to call it the First Division is fine in my book. Just not the f*cking Premiership.

Are we still allowed to call the French "cheese-eating surrender monkeys"?

Just asking.

I call the division we are going into the First Division or the Panda Pop Fizzy Coke league. Depending if I'm being generous or abusive.

Dave - I'm sorry my last post was before I saw your comment and this one was to answer a question.  I'll leave it there.

Don't worry, I didn't think you'd typed all that in the 31 second gap between the two posts ;)

I just don't get this. Markeeeebeeee2005 wrote a post slagging off five definitely unprofessional footballers, suggesting two of them were talking about fast food and  other things totally unrelated to their professional career. There's been plenty of posts on here slagging off players, managers and just about everyone under the sun, not once mentioning the color of their skin. Do football fans actually have to think about the player in question's ancestral origins, and adjusting the actual wording of their post accordingly, when posting on a British forum?

I'd better watch my tongue the next time I visit the UK (even if it will make me look silly).

This is all a bit strange... I read the original reference to fried chicken as simply part of the list of vacuous bullshit markeeeebeeee2005 was imagining the scum we have as players to be saying, in his funny but sadly probably quite realistic dressing room scene. That's despite me being aware of the possible racist connotations of fried chicken (and, for that matter, water melons).
I'm frankly astonished that Paul_e could be asking him to be "a little contrite" about it. He's said he didn't know that fried chicken could be perceived as racist and that he'll be careful not to use it in a similar context again. What more can he do?
