See Mark, most of that I was ok with but why did you have to say 'fried chicken' you just seem to have decided to randomly slip in a bit of casual racism which really served no purpose.

I think you're reading something into it that's not there. A fair amount of my family are of similar ethnicity to these guys. Apology?

What difference does that make?

EDIT although having read it, it doesn't look racist to me.

But why would you say the conversation goes: we were at a successful club together, we're really rich, we can probably get cushy jobs afterwards, mmm chicken, we're both so fit, we'[re both rich ...

it just doesn't fit in with anything else that he said.  If someone can explain to me why it makes sense being there then I'll apologise for seeing something that wasn't there but I can't think of anything.

That pic doesn't seem right, the other names on the shirts & why would they do a photo shoot of sorts with last season's relegation shirt. .

The guy next to Tony is not Wyness?

Wyness Wiki page now lists him as Villa CEO

Then who is he in the pic?

Definitely isn't Wyness. It's not Samuelson or Cook either, so by process of elimination could be Banfill?

What is the name on the shirt concealed by his left shoulder? Maybe is is his own.

Yes quite possibly, that or he's the new Villa tour guide looking very pleased with himself, as looking at it again I don't see that guy as being a Jamie (Banfill's first name).

Well it just plain isn't, so make of it what you will. Where I live in Streatham all sorts of miscreants eat fried chicken of all colours.

Make of it what you will. It was light hearted and it seems a shame that you would throw around accusations that are so serious about me that aren't true.

I don't know you but it still hurts to have something like that said. Racism is foul if you knew me at all you wouldn't have said it.

Definitnitely not a Jamie. Jamies tend to be irritating little ******.

Redknapp
Oliver
Callum

Whoever he is might be a nasty ******, but he's (probably) not a Jamie.

Could it be that the shirt names were part of a sales pitch from the club? Ie 'Here are the dressing rooms and look! We've made up shirts for all the people we know are involved in the purchasing team.' So rather than that being the basis of the new board, it was just a little gimmick from the 'old' club to convince them that this was the one they wanted.

Wouldn't be a bit weird if they came to look around before saying "We'll take it. Right, first order of business; let's get the names of the new board printed on the back of soon-to-be-out-of-date shirts!"? I don't know, it just seems unlikely.

I used to follow a few footballers on twitter.

The reason i binned them is because approximately 30% of their posts seemed to be about going to Nandos. I just assumed it was something along those lines (and another 30% were about Dubai, something else referenced in the post).

Is there even a racial stereotype in this country which associates black people with fried chicken?

I'm usually amongst the first to pile into someone being racist here, and am acutely sensitive to it, but I honestly can't see anything in the original post here to raise an eyebrow about.

I'm not throwing accusations around but I have to say thought exactly the same (I am of said ethnicity). Quite funny but probably a little unwise would be my take on it...

Look at that picture.  They're posing for another photographer where they're centered around Xia's No.8 shirt.  That looks like a "That was the day" picture and some of those people, such as Banfill, don't appear to have had any involvement in getting the deal this far.

Interesting if the No.6 is Garry Cook, who if you can get past some o fhis less pleasant character traits that led to his demise at Man City, did a great job of taking over where Bernstein left off in largely utilising the obscene riches well to start with, as well as apparently getting a lot of the behind the scenes stuff right.

So if someone did not see the comment as being racist - are they racist too?

The only time I have ever heard the term "Fried Chicken" called racist was with Garcia to Woods in an apology - They were really good friends and the only reason it came to be public was the stupid press made it an issue of it. I don't remember Woods ever did.
There does seem to be a growing number of folk in society who are anxiously waiting to be offended by something

Accusation of casual racism

Defence

a comment

a request for clarification

Further defence

I noticed it and clicked into my 'is this racist' mode. This means a full audit of the post and I think that yes the comment may be racist but wasn't meant to be racist. If the original poster can answer this question - Would you have included 'fried chicken in your post if one of the collection of players you were lampooning was white? Then we can establish whether the person that posted is a decent chap or indeed a horrible nazi.

I noticed it cos it reminded me of that spat between Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia a couple of years ago.  https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2013/may/22/sergio-garcia-remark-tiger-woods-row
