My daughter always has been good with verse.  Back in the day when we were in the Panini Lounge she was bored and made up a song.

A Birmingham babby

Is dirty and scabby

And so is Ali Brown

He plays for the Baggies

And we all hate him

Because he brought Alex Cropley  down

Funny how certain words trigger long forgotten memories.

The full version is "the Bab" and is the diminutive of "ar kid" or "ar wench".  No right minded educated person with an ear for the subtle beauty of language ever describes an infant as a bay bee.  Saying "the babby" is so much more satisfying and cool to boot.

We're too busy inventing the future to fuck about saying bay bee. Babby is much quicker.

Here in the Black Country ...
We ate pikelets not crumpets. Sometimes for we tay.
My brother is ar kid or chap.
"scratchings" from the chippy are called bits - "chock us some bits on" - nice with a scallop.
Pubs used to have outdoors. You could buy pop, crisps or bags of suck.
Roundabouts are islands.
Two's up on a fag but dow duck arse it.

When I was taking driving lessons ooop north I used to reassure myself of the instructions so I said 'im turning left at the island?' . The broad northerner said 'tha what?' To which I replied ' At the island im going left aint I?' He looked puzzled and the penny dropped, to which I further said ' the roundabout, fucking left at the fucking roundabout!'.

Being about 75% Brummy and 25% Yam Yam, I've always thought use of the word wench was a way of distinguishing a Black Countryman/woman.

Never knew what the history of this was based in Black Country or Brummie but my Dad used to tell a couple of one line jokes to explain the regional dialect:-

Two blokes at a funeral one says to the other, ' Have you come here for the wake?' The other replies, ' Nah, just for two days'.

Two beds next to another in a hospital, the occupant of one says to his neighbour ' Have you come here to die?' The response being ' No I came here yesterday'

Both work obviously better once using our wonderful local patois- in written form they don't translate as well.

We are being dialect in our duties by not concentrating on takeover chatter ?

I'll throw this one in then. Post takeover The Doc decides to make a clean sweep of all the roles at Villa Park and therefore tell Sir Doug that his emeritus title has been withdrawn. How would you feel about that?Positive or negative?

I saw a cockle man last saturday for the first time in ages. I've never fathomed why people think that crab sticks and lager are a good combination.

If you drink enough lager EVERYTHING seems like a good idea. I reckon I went over twenty years without having a single bad idea.

ha ha good one

It'd be a bit petty.

I found this from a Sheffield Wednesday blogger. Seems they'd never heard of their new owner either.  Turns out they are big into tuna.  Not all rich people are well known.

How rich is the new owner of Sheffield Wednesday F.C. Dejphon Chansiri I think we have the Full Monty

When I looked on Wiki records yesterday, there wasn’t even a record for Dejphon Chansiri , however two entries appeared today telling very little about him.  When I first searched on his name, it brought up the company his family own, the Thai Union Frozen Group. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dejphon_Chansiri.

He hasn't been a bad owner for them.

Puts things into perspective. I still have some slight reservations around Xia (mostly because I don't feel we know enough about him) but at least he is not a slaver nor is he running possibly the worst company in the world - and the competition is stiff - when it comes to pillaging and abusing what's left of ocean and marine life.

FFS - trying to read up here, rather than going on the internet, and "BOYMINGHAM" (yes I do know it how the world see's it) still covers the last 30 pages.

And for the pedants - yes this is also the interweb - I fucking live from it.

There :)

(Yesterday a nice chick from work said - she liked Edvard away from work, but she hated the working Edvard :) Aint I cute)

Definitely a Black Country one, bit hard to transliterate...
'What's yer job?'
'Omma driver'
'What kind of driver?'
'I told you, omma driver'
'I know, what kind of a driver? Trains, taxis?'
'Om an omma driver, I drive ommas'

I believe it was a hammer driver that deprived Tony Iomi of his fingertips.

I know it's only Twitter but it's better to find out now if it's true.
