When I first read of the takeover my immediate thoughts were: great, Lerner's gone. All the hyperbole about top 6 season after next (assuming we win promotion), you naturally take with a pinch of salt, if you're a cynical midlander, which I am. Not really across all the other stuff that seems to have emerged in the day or so since the deal was announced as there is so much comment on here, it's difficult to absorb.

I'm cautiously optimistic, no more than that. You get immune to all the chew talked about the club - good and bad, after supporting them for 30+ yrs.

My view now is simply wait and see. I can't help thinking that with his supposed background in infrastructure provision in China, this guy's main goal could be be acquiring big tracts of land and developing it around East Birmingham and Villa might just be a high profile side show for him. If it did turn out to be the case, it mightn't be the end of the world.

In reality though, few if any of us, really know if this man is the real deal or not. I'm just glad Lerner's gone and we move on. Whether that turns out to be good for us or not, all we can do really is wait and see.

With so little info, a lot weighs on lerner's judgement about xia's ambitions. That worries me a lot

Hopefully hollis has done the due diligence you'd expect with someone of his background. But ultimately, it's not his responsibility to get guarantees on future investment or development plans.

We just need to hear more. The stuff around whether Recon group has a genuine 100% controlling interest in 5 companies or a different commercial relationship is hopefully irrelevant. If he's claiming he wants us competing with Barcelona without man city type investment I'm more concerned about credibility. But after Leicester, I don't know where the glass ceiling really is any more

"But after Leicester, I don't know where the glass ceiling really is any more"
It is always important in any business structure to have policy review and Management Of Change (MOC) in place for when targets have been reached. Roughly speaking, when you've reached your first target, (in our case, promotion), the business model to achieve that success will not necessarily be effective for the next target, (competent premiership performances), another review would be required and an MOC in place to implement the new policy.
If you have reached a glass ceiling - your reviews and MOCs are not working.

Deadspin/Gawker now starting to take an interest.

No new reporting yet but maybe they'll start digging around

Steve Hollis of all people certainly has the contacts to check whether this bloke is strictly above board. Speaking personally at this time I feel a little uneasy about the whole thing.I am not confident the Football League will look at his group in depth. The next couple of weeks should be interesting. If I was Pearson,Moyes or Di Matteo I would hang fire for a bit before agreeing to anything. Mervyn King should get involved but will he? On reflection perhaps he advised Lerner that these people may not be suitable custodians for Aston Villa. We may or may not find out in the near future

If he hasn't got the funds will he pass the fit and proper persons test?

I voted 'Yes' simply because the last few years have been such an arse-up that tere has to be something positive in moving on from it...

Yes. To pass you must not be a crook, bankrupt or have related pending actions. If he does not have any funds he he can not  complete the purchase.

I must say reaction on here is a bit like I see from most football fans not just Villa during a match. " we have a corner I bet they will score a breakaway goal from it"

That is another thing that bugged me. He should not be criticising 'previous management', what he means by that. It is unnecessary and is poor form.
He should be absolutely. We need to know he can identify where we have gone wrong.

This could delay matters:
"The Premier League is conducting its investigation while the Football League’s due diligence will begin next month, when Villa officially become a Championship club."

Xia said his immediate objective will be to support Aston Villa's effort to return to the Premier League. If the club can achieve that goal next season, and is not relegated to the lower league for three years, he said Recon will pay the club's current owner another 40 million pounds, according to the deal.

So if we get promoted next year and not relegated again within three years Xia has to fork out another £40m? I wonder how that's going to turn out?
