Why is Lotus Healthcare relevant?
Lotus is relevant as it is the division where the tourism and leisure portfolio is where our club will be placed.
That's not how I read it. Lotus is part of Health & Agriculture whereas the Villa is now part of Sports, Leisure & Tourism.
Only relevant because it's the only company in the group named that we can check how big/successful it is. The answer is it's not very big and is declining rapidly - nearly 50% drop in revenue over the last five years, over $400M losses last year, high debt-to-equity ratio (though the figures are a bit contrary here) declining cash, declining cash flow - no I can't see anything good about any of that.
It's not relevant to Tony Xia's ability to make a success of the Villa but it is not inspiring that it's the one company trumpeted in the 'Introducing Tony Xia' release.
IMHO (and I'm happy to be corrected on this) running a multinational conglomerate is akin to running an investment portfolio. You're basically betting on acquisitions. It has f**k all to do with running a business. I'm sure Tony's made a packet out of his acquisition gambles but like any betting ring there are always winners to go with the losers. Why the winners are vaunted as geniuses is beyond me.
Really hope I'm wrong but I have a seriously bad feeling about this.
